GPE #4 : Clue - The Dinahmow Edition

D I N A H M O W

at the

Garden Photos Event

with the

Sensitive Weed!

I am going to try sending some garden pics.  Well, you managed it, Dinahmow.   On the day, if my memory marbles have not rolled away, I'll try to put more on my blog!  And you managed that, too!  But huge thanks, in advance, for hosting the garden party.  Ooh!  Did I say "party"?  I wonder if there will be crocque em bouche and Black Forest?  She's thinking of this.

1. Red Anthurium

2. Pink Brugmansia

3. Phaius australis, a native swamp orchid

4. Mimosa pudica, aka 'sensitive weed' and on the Weed Police hit list here.  Shhh!

5. Vanda 'Pat's Delight'

These are in the garden at the "old house" and I think they count as it was only a couple of months ago!

6. Ixora not named , but possibly 'Gold Fire'

7. Nerium oleander

8. Strelitzia nicolai

9. Syzigium wilsonii  - Drag Queen!

10. Tecomanthe hillii

Yesterday (17th October), my former next door neighbour was working in her garden so I ambled over the road and had scrounge!  The dark red oleander that I planted years ago now towers over the fence and rather a lot of it is on her side.  So she handed me her secateurs and I cut an armful for cuttings.  And she took some as well for her m-i-l who lives two houses up.

But wait!  There's more... one of the Strelitzia nicolai is almost pushing the fence down, so we "pruned" that, too!  Isn't it a gorgeous blue!

☙❧

Thank you, Dinahmow, for that taste of the tropical!  And I hope the Weed Police didn't catch up with you?

In a couple of days time it will be Ms Scarlet's turn - and this time she won't be sharing with anyone else!

    1. Dinahmow always gives good flowerhead!

If the Garden Photos Event can inspire, then our work here is done. Remember: the Garden Photos Even is NOT a competition, so no one will be judging.

  2. WOW! As working in a floral shop right now, Dinah has some very pricey stems in her garden....many of them fetch between $8 and $16 a stem here. My green thumb wouldn't know where to start with growing these gems. Brava!!!!!!

Now if Scarlet is next, I hope someone has the platter of Rocher Ferrero ready?

    1. Maddie, dear, most of what I grow is (fairly) easily propagated. That said, Strelitzia nicolai, in a pot and with one flower bud is almost $50..yikes!

    2. Did someone say Ferrero Rocher?!?

  3. I love the ambivalent nature of M (Mugger) Pudica, that it's so terribly shy but attempts to kill it just increase it and it's wildly invasive. Actually I love all the plants on here and I vote for Dinahmow's garden!

    1. Thank you, Hound. You wouldn't love the sensitive weed if you stepped on it!

    3. You can remind me all you like, I'm a dog and don't understand.
Does it sting or something? I had a former colleague who went to work in Australia. He was frightened of spiders and as I foretold it didn't end well!

  4. No giant spiders (who eat one man an afternoon) ? No dead, poisonous toads (that died from their own poison by accident) ? No rocketworms (or whatever lurks there in the outback) ? Are you sure these pics came from Dinahmow ?

    1. Dratted Autumn/Winter! Still, what about your terrariums, Sixpence? You've still got time to send in a few photos if you'd like to take part?

  7. Van Gogh moved to Arles in order to see and be inspired by more and brighter colours. He would have LOVED the colour in Dinahmow's garden.

  8. and became depressed and cut his ear off. I'd cut one of my tits off, scoop out the flesh and wear it on my head as a beret if I had to live there. I'm talking about Arles, not Dinah's lovely garden and that Ixora is spectacular, I've only seen them in red, I would have dug it up and taken it with me.

    1. That yellow Ixora is a real knock-out.I wish I had dug it out and brought it down the street! I'm having hell's own trouble finding one in a store. In this garden I have a stunning true red and a lipstick-y pink, but no yellows.Yet.
