Pulsating Pink Bush!
Ms Scarlet renamed The Infomaniac Garden Photos Event to "The Great Blogging Gardening Show" (possibly due to a bout of overexcitedness. Or forgetfulness...). But, whatever it's called, it wouldn't be complete without a showing of Ms Scarlet's Big Pink Bush™ so, for your delectation, here it is in all its pulsating perfection:
Now, let's hear what Ms Scarlet has to say about her gardening efforts, shall we?
Dear Mr Devine,
As you are aware I am not much of a gardener, I don't like getting my hands dirty, nor do I like unearthing live electricity cables [commonly found beneath the gardens of Devon], despite this I have done my best to provide enough pictures of my back yard to have a post all to myself.
Firstly, some pretty flowers, freshly bought from the garden centre - to be honest it might have been kinder to rent them as I think they are dead now. I believe they fell victim to the enormous slugs.
I then have a shot of the Granny's Bonnet blooming all over the show. I like Granny's Bonnet, it fends for itself and doesn't cause me any bother.
Finally, I have some pictures of my borders; my lawn; and the cherry tree; and a pictorial explanation of why my garden often looks a little tatty:
I think this is the most effort I've made for the Gardening show! The hard part was making the Gifs - i.e. remembering where the hell the gif maker was on my iPad.
Meanwhile, I forgot my triffid entry....

Thank you, Ms Scarlet (and Sid) - Wiz zees pulzating pink bush, you are reelly zpoiling uz!
Mistress Maddie's gardens of the House of Borghese are up next! Even though she's buggered off on her hols again...
Now that is a gorgeous garden (back yard, indeed, too modest). You even have a hound!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thank you, Hound! The yard often gets overgrown with brambles coming over from the field behind - I took pics soon after it had had a spruce up!
DeleteEvery garden needs a hound in my opinion!

Your dearly departed plant friend reminds me of when I planted some cornflowers for the bees. I was told they were easy to care for as they were not supposed to require regular water, but they died on me in short order so I don't know what happened. At least lilac and lavender grow well her and the bees love them and the chives when they flower. Such a nice yard! You need a hammock. One that can be easily stored away in the winters to keep its use for years.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ms P! I have a lot of lavender! And a lot of Bumble Bees - the Honey Bees seem to be in decline.
DeleteA hammock! Now there's a good idea!

you had me at pink bush.
ReplyDeleteMs Norma - I love that pink bush, I look forward to it bloomin' every year, it's so vibrant!

Your pink bush is not the least bit unruly. I'm guessing that you finally trimmed your bush.
DeleteI thought that given the auspicious occasion of the Infomaniac Gardening Event that I ought to tidy up my winning entry!
DeleteSx
May I remind you, Ms Scarlet, that there shall be no winning entry as - in my best Very Mistress voice: The Garden Photos Event is NOT a competition!
DeletePfffftttt.

You really do live in the middle of nowhere, Ms Scarlet! It's a nice size garden - I would never be out of it.
ReplyDeleteSlugs are the bane of our garden, too, which is why we plant lots of slug-proof things like hardy geraniums, aquilegia, fuchsias, day-lilies and ferns. Of course we also have slug-magnet dahlias, which this year were indeed shredded - but with good compost, feeding (and some sort of summer, which we didn't get in 2021!) they usually come back year after year. That's a particularly lovely one.
Hurrah for the pulsating pink bush! Jx
Thank you, Jon! I know I should spend more time out there, I could buy a sun lounger and hire a lad to boss around, but I fear I would be wasting my money, what with all the Devon rain. Talking of which, I have just received a good soaking and now the blessed sun has come out. So many clouds up there with my name on them.

I am all about looking at bush. That said, those last two photos are amazing. Love this series. How much fun. I can't wait to garden next year. I'm going to spend a bit more and work a bit harder, I think. Fingers crossed. So inspiring.
ReplyDeleteAwwww... thank you, Mr Tonking!! I'm really pleased that I made an effort this year, I'm usually a lazy baggage. I look forward to seeing your garden next year!

I admire this garden, it's a no nonsense garden, a simple mow and edge once a week and bugger the rest sort of garden. What a view over the fence. Is your pink bush fragrant?
ReplyDeleteMitzi - It is indeed a no nonsense, old fashioned garden. The theory is that it should be mown and edged weekly… but it might sometimes stretch to monthly! But even the dog gets moody when the grass isn’t cut as he doesn’t like getting his paws wet first thing.
DeleteI wish the bush was fragrant, but no, it doesn’t seem to have a distinctive aroma.

Hammock. The thing about hammocks is that you need TWO trees. For the attachment thereto. (Or an extremely long piece of string.)
ReplyDeleteBut your azalea looks riotously healthy. In the pink, even!
You may have a pool, Missy Dinah, BUT, I have two trees in close proximity!!! It is possible! Come next summer I will be swinging between two trunks….. or maybe in 10 years time when the trees are big enough to support me.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a good year for the big pink bush!

Depends on ratio of money to quarantine expenditure...
DeleteBah! It's always skewed in favour of the quarantine expenditure.
DeleteScarlet & Dinah Actually I was thinking of the kind of hammock that comes with its own frame, so you can put it anywhere in the yard and, if you have a shed or someplace, to put it away during the winter months. I actually plan to put in two posts at the correct distance that can either be used to hang a hammock or hang laundry by. A good concrete base will make it easy to mow around. the cedar posts and hooks stay up year-round, hammock and rope get put away during the off season.
ReplyDeleteMels & Dinah - I like those hammocks that come with their own frames - I might aim for one next year, as I'm not likely to be going anywhere - pandemic or no pandemic. I already have a paddling pool [blow up rubber thing] so I'll be all set.

WOW! That last one of the triffid I didn't expect. Beautiful gardens but the cute doggie swipe my attention. She does rather have a nice pink bush.
ReplyDeleteAsriel - Thank you! Yes, I go nowhere without my notorious pink bush.
DeleteI did indeed calculate that my cute dog would win the gardening event for me! I've heard that the prize is a pair of velour green shorts.
Sx
May I remind you yet again, Ms Scarlet, that the Garden-
DeleteOh, I mean: Yes! You win the aforementioned 'Shorts!
Hang on... I think I'm experiencing déjà vu??
Brava Scarlet!!!! I am very surprised by this...and her Pulsating Pink Bush, is almost like a yearly tradition at this point. I am loving the Grannny's Bonnet! That looks like something I would try to grow. Luckily I don't see too many slugs in our garden...couldn't say one I saw the last one really. But what surprised me was the size of her garden and all the greenery. I was picturing a huge mud pit, with suck wellies all over the places for some reason.
ReplyDeleteMadam Maddie - Thank you!! Trust me I do have some gratuitous mud shots. Yep - for a non gardener my garden is a bit large!
ReplyDeleteSx
Love your puppy GIF!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Norma!! He's a proper little tubster!
