Isn't It Drafty In Here?!

It was while dragging a draft post about books into 2021 and getting it fit to be published, that I noticed that there were 1300 posts on this blog.  But, upon closer inspection, 16 of them were drafts, so it'll be at least a couple of months before I hit that nice, round 1300 published posts.

I pondered deleting the drafts as some of them are bloody ancient, but I thought I might actually finish them off one day and publish them.  Then I got to wondering if anyone else has a load of half-finished (or less) posts languishing in their "drafts" folder.  So, do you?  If I show you mine, will you show me yours?  I hope so, because here are mine:

Out of these first five, I'd just about managed to get "Books" in some sort of order, but I've ruined it with some questionable font/size choices, so that's going to take some unravelling.  Then, I'm preparing for this years "Coven Awards" as I had an idea for a revamp which means taking note of things as they happen, rather than trying to remember stuff in a panic half-way through December.  There's also some preparation for a trip over the Cusp for "Ms Scarlet's Birthday" in March - but the rest of that post depends on whether we get this pandemic under control and the Cusp opens its borders.  Obviously, "Isn't It Drafty In Here" is this post, which just leaves "It's a Faake! prose" - which I will probably delete it as it's only a half-arsed Star Trek story that, despite the Jan 3 date, has actually been hanging around since at least Feb 2019 (which is the penultimate time that I edited it).  The only reason it's still hangning around is that I've been using it to upload images to my Blogger gallery, and Jan 3rd was the last time I did that...

Of this second batch, "2020 Telly" was part of the 2020 Coven Awards, but I cut it for time - and because I couldn't decide/choose my favourite shows or be bothered to write about them.  I think I'll just delete this one as well.  The "Ferrero Rocher Foil Hat Competition" used to be a generic Tin Foil Hat Compo post but I updated it after a chance comment from The Very Mistress over at Ms Scarlet's Wonky Words.  "Combumbambelment" is something Mago once said.  "Dobbin" is from a nightmare over the Cusp that I think I'd rather forget - although, Timothy Claypole will probably make things better...  "Only A Poisoned Apple Away" is some witchy stuff, and "Computron / WITCH" is leftovers from LẌ's birthday book two years ago.

And the final six?  Oh, dear...  Except for "Not More Hats of Dame Barbara Cartland" (the other ones can be found here and here) and "Bewildered Becomes the Storm", these are all a LOT older than they look.  Especially the film meme.  But ESPECIALLY "Dymobots, ho!"

 There.  Now, it's your turn!

P.S. I have just nearly cried at the end of Superstore S4 E8 when Mateo is shitting himself about getting found out that he's an undocumented immigrant and getting deported, then Glenn (the store manager) tells him his fake Social Security number checks out - and "Merry Christmas".

  1. Nope. None. Well one. I have one to end the blog, if I ever get fed up with blogger and want to end it all. I can just push published and it's done.

and thanks again for that email link. I read the story and it was fascinating.

    1. "The Last Post" - it certainly does pay to be prepared. I don't have anything like that, but I have toyed with the idea of having a final post that will auto-publish should I cark it unexpectedly. It would mean forwarding on the publishing date every so often while I'm alive, but I fear I might forget about it and it would eventually publish while I'm on holiday and I'd come back to everyone thinking I was dead!

  2. Good God, no!!! No drafts here! Do I look like I plan anything???? This might be a fib. I do actually have 4 drafts. The oldest is from 2018, where I'm having a rant about the menopause - but I decided that my readership would mostly pass out if I published it; I have a blankety-blank style post from 2019, which makes no sense whatsoever; another from Feb 2020 with 4 lines written on the theme of things to look forward to in 2020!!!! And finally, one from the end of 2020 titled 'WordPress Meltdown' featuring two confused sentences.
Meanwhile, you are writing me a birthday post!!!! Yay!!!! There is something to look forward to after all!!!

    1. You obviously have a very good draft excluder!
I like your blankety-blank posts, and I'll keep some smelling salts at the ready should that menopause rear its ugly head unexpectedly.

Now, I'd better make some enquiries with the Cusp Ambassador as to whether those borders will be open by the beginning of March...

  3. I have 154 drafts.

    Did I win yet?

  4. I am nowhere near The Very Mistress's level, nor even yours! My eight draft posts mainly consist of old ones previously published where a video has disappeared from YouTube, or because of a broken link to a picture (on the reprehensible Photobucket - which I quit completely over their proposed massive licence charge -or similar), I have been wracking my brain as to what it was actually all about! Only one contains a few notes that I was going to make into a "birthday blog" for a famous person but forgot about it so will wait till their birthday comes around again...:-)

I have posted 5,580 posts since I started blogging in 2007, by the way. Do I win yet?!

    Jx

PS I'm going to have to close a window, with all these drafts!

  5. I'm impressed that you draft things. My only drafts are ones I've unpublished because I am not sure about the wisdom of them.
I definitely think you should do the final post thing because when you die we'll all assume you're on holiday and make fun of you.

  6. I don't do drafts. In the folder "drafts" are three unfinished posts, two are busniess related, one is about a photographer I like very much. I simply did not finish the post, no idea why. The other two are about two situations that occurred when I did business with folk in MIddlefranconia and elsewhere - in the end the subject is boring, and I keep them simply as memo. But over time I will delete these texts ; some day I will realise that the anger is over, the deed is done, the blood has dried. Not fully, yet.

    1. Blimey! It sounds like you can really hold a grudge. I shall have to be careful not to anger you, Mago.

    2. Nothing to be proud of, more a character de-formation. Run in my father's side of the family, his mother was known to not forget an indignity. She was able to take revenge after years. God has no problem with forgiving, we mere humans on the other hand ... but I worked on it seriously. I still can't forget, but am not actively seeking revenge anymore. Mostly.
No worries IDV - in the cases related to the two drafts we were gypped, used in an (by any means) unacceptable way, I payed my Lehrgeld there. But again, it was business related "things". In personal affairs I prefer an open word that prevents the grudge from forming. Usually.

  7. I don't use the drafts folder. Everything I do starts in MS Word or on paper pad and pencil. I'm old school that way. I copy and paste into Wordpress, make any necessary tweaks and publish.

Where's the confessional booth? I have a confession, I've been known to hold grudges. I can't imagine you could do anything from way over there in the UK that would warrant a proper grudge though.

    2. Ah, yes, the paper pad. That's mostly how I start too - I have many, MANY more draft posts (or, ideas, mostly) in my notebook than in Blogger Drafts.
I toyed with Word then copy-pasting but spent almost as much time reformatting than it would have taken to type directly into Blogger foratting as I go. WordPress must be a better fit for such things.

As for the grudge-holding, just in case, I'm grateful for distance and limited international travel thanks to our pandemic friend.

  8. I have 23 drafts. On the 20th August 2020 there is a untitled post with a photograph of furniture polish The Original Non Silicone Wood Silk? No text, just the picture. God knows! On the 9th October the maid and I called on spec to an animal shelter in the hope of buying a dog and was met at the door by a sour faced woman who turned us away for not having an appointment. In Nov I was showing off my hydroponics success, I abandoned that because I couldn't get the photographs in the right order and Dec wishing you all a Merry Christmas.

    1. The mind boggles at "The Original Non Silicone Wood Silk"! Well, it doesn't really. My mind immediately went into the gutter.

Sounds like some of these are salvageable: Hydroponics for this year's Garden Photos Event, and "Merry Christmas" can be used this year too!

  9. As a dilettante blogger who only posts once or twice a month the answer is is no, I do not have any drafts.

Then I thought again and realised that what I do have is a folder on the PC for unfinished projects which amounts to the same thing.

    1. Some fascinating projects, there. I hope at least some do manage to see the light of day at some point. Maybe not "The Joy of Marmalade" - unless it's not affiliated with Delilah Smythe...

    2. It is funny that you mention Delilah Smythe.
I don't know if you know but I collect cookery Books and have been searching for a copy of ' Marmalised Marmalades ' for years !
I believe they sell for well over £100 on Amazon these days.

    3. £100!?! My copy has some obscene filth scrawled inside the sleeve by Delilah herself - perhaps I can add an extra zero on to the asking price?

  11. I had more Pre-Scheduled Posts than Drafts, but I finally got caught up. As for Archived Posts, dumped them all and now don't wait until Annually to hit that little Trash Can button, it makes me feel positively Domestic to do Housekeeping somewhere, even if just in cyberspace. Meanwhile the House is in rather a Pandemic Wreck at times, we don't do Lockdown well.

    1. Ah, welcome, Bohemian! Pre-scheduled posts sounds like another can of worms entirely. I rarely pre-schedule because I'm not usually organised enough to do so - unlike you, it seems.
As long as at least one house is relatively clear - be it cyber or realworld - you've got someplace to go to recuperate for a little while.
