Thursday Swim: Something's Afoot

Another Thursday means another swim. And, good gods it was lovely down on the beach this morning!  The sea was calmer than I've seen it for a long time (no wind), and although it was high tide, it wasn't all the way up.  I wandered along to my usual spot (same as last Thursday, anyway) away from the few people who were about, and promptly threw myself into the drink.

Look how clear the water is! This unkempt groyne cannot hide in the murky depths!

Uh, oh.  Something's afoot!  (The water's up to my waist here)

A little further out (about lower-ribcage depth) looking back to shore...

... and out to sea

Oh, no.  This big groyne's been battered by a rock.  A big piece of flint, by the look of it.

A Skipper butterfly on ragwort (or somesuch)

A Six-spot Burnet moth

Horned (or Sea) Poppy.  This was the only flower - the rest have turned into "horns", as you can see.

And another look at those ripening rosehips first seen in last Thursday's post.

I know I said at the end of July that I was getting sick of these "variations on a theme" photo-posts, and was going to publish a few different things, but I simply had to do something with the photos I took this morning. Perhaps I won't take Camera next time?
Right. Better get on with that Star Trek drawing and finish reading a book...

  1. i knew it. I just knew I was missing some euphemism. And now I've got it.
It's dangerous to swim after throwing yourself in the drink, in fact all sorts of things become more fun, sorry, dangerous, when intoxicated.
I'm definitely not submitting captions for the elf shorts. Not now I've looked up what a whore's shower is on urban dictionary!

    1. Ignoring the euphemism for now, I can't believe that you didn't know what a whore's shower is?!? You! (Not that I'm saying you're a whore, just that I'm sure Birmingham is rife with whores and that the saying would have come to your attention somehow).
But, still, you should submit some captions, and if you win, you can always wrap yourself in cling-film (instead of tin foil) to prevent the transfer of godsonlyknowwhat when you put on The 'Shorts.

    2. Actually we have a better class of tart here. The floozy in thr jacuzzi was chosen for a reason! Besides, you don't go to the trouble of importing water from Wales and not use it.
In the wilds outside the city you will find something variously called a Cradley Heath or Quarry Bank bath. I am told baby wipes feature highly.

  2. Such beautiful pictures!!!!

If that water was up to your waste, that means in would be pecs high on me. And I would have panicked had I seen that thing swimming! Meanwhile over at John Grays... it's cool here, come to the Casa right this minute!!!

    1. That would mean that when I'm up to my neck in it, you'd be in over your head, and I don't believe that for a minute!

    1. That's good, because I accidently had another one today (and didn't leave Camera at home like I said I was going to...).

  4. I just don't know how you get all the beach to yourself. They are turning people away in Cornwall - apparently two of my favourite beaches have been overrun due to word of mouth on social media. My advice is to share some ugly pictures to stop people finding your secret gems.

    1. I saw something on the news about overcrowded beaches in Cornwall, not to mention gridlocked roads due to lazy, thoughtless parking, and just the sheer volume of traffic heading to the coast. It looked and sounded like a nightmare!
I must admit, I did wonder whether to stop posting so many beach photos, just in case. However, Summer seems to be over now - overcast days from here on out - so perhaps I shouldn't worry about it until next year?

    2. It feels very Autumnal here. All wasps and blackberries. I think summer is done so I think you're safe.
Next year I shall turn all the signs around and send the grockels to Cromer. It's my secret plan!

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
