Sunday Swim: Bunny Boiling

Overstrand beach this morning
Don't worry - I haven't gone all Glenn-Close-in-Fatal-Attraction on anyone/thing. Rather, I have partaken in my first sea swim of the year on this, the most boilingest hot day so far.  Last year I didn't fling myself in the drink until mid July (although, back in 2017, I was a day earlier than this year, managing to brave the cold sea on the 1st of June).

Oh, and for the 'Bunny' bit, just keep going...

The knobbly old spine of some ancient sea monster plying the depths shallows

Speaking of ancient monsters, the only other people on the beach at this time were my sister, Inexcuseable, her husband, and Count Podgkinson
Aw....  Bunnies!
The rabbits live in that hole in the cliff, almost right in the middle of this photo
Approaching the End-of-the-Line (shortly after I took this photo, that man with his measuring devices [and his son, or other errant child] came to monitor my groyne again)
Drat!  Looks like someone got there before me
Bloody smug cormorants...

oOo

The following photos are from yesterday:

A red admiral sunning itself on the old fence post at the back of the DeVice Mansion's garden
Bit tatty...
One of those bunnies again.  I didn't realise it was there when I took the photo - I was trying to get a photo of...
... sand martins!  These aren't the best photos (maximum zoom), but one can just about make out two perching on the edge of their nesting tunnels (top middle and bottom right)
There's one swooping in here
And another (or the same one) having alighted (wings still spread) on the cliff face
The sand martin nest holes in in this part of the cliff face (not far west of the bunny hole)
Yesterday was another nice day - not as hot as today, mind
While I was down here...
... I thought I'd lurk about in a crusty old groyne

  1. Thank you for not boiling the bunnies!

  2. You seriously mean to say there's a bird which likes sand? According to the RSPB website they are egregious when breeding. Disgusting.
Apparently the famous South African hadeda's call is because it's frightened of heights. Birds are not really on my list of things to do.
Now groynes, on the other hand...
The boy's function was obviously to hold the tape while the man walked aaaaallll the way to the other end of your groyne to measure it.
Bunnies are better stewed than boiled, but the last time I got one off the Bull Ring it cost L8! So is a rare boney treat.

    1. I'm terribly sorry. I shall put up a content warning next time sand martins are featured.

Ah. I think you've hit the groyne on the head there. It is rather a large one. I hope he didn't get worn out by taking it all the way to the end?

  3. Oh, no! The cave beast of Caerbannog!

I hope you had the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch ready...

    1. Well, I did, but I got confused with the countdown instructions so I didn't pull the pin and lob it at my foe (who is definitely naughty in God's sight).
      Maybe next time?

  4. It rained here today. I am wearing socks and a woolly Cardy.
Meanwhile, I am very impressed with the Sand Martins and the bunnies! I hope the bunnies can swim?

    1. Socks? A Woolly cardy?!? Has the ice age come to Devon? It rained a little bit here, too, but I think most of the drops evaporated before they hit the ground...

  5. I do like that second to last photo, something very calming about it.

    1. Until this weekend, I didn't realise anything actually lived in that little cave. I just thought it was a hole in the cliff.

  8. You really should stay out of those crusty old groyne. It's probably where you caught that awful warty wand.

    1. Oh, that makes sense. I always thought I caught it from the fat dusty old groynes over at The Very Mistress's.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
