Warped Delta

Inspired by this - the blade looking like it's made of sky - and because I haven't done anything a bit arty for a couple of months - since the Narwhal in a Spacesuit, really - I have eased my way back into the world of creativity by combining my extremely amateur photography, the North Norfolk coast, and Star Trek.

This is the Star Trek bit.
Specifically, black and silver cardboard cut out to look like the 2390s Starfleet insignia.

Here are the bits of cardboard overlaid onto various beach and sky photos displayed on my pooter monitor

And here are some more after having been straightened and cropped

So, there you have it. I was going to write a bit more about my thoughts and the process, but I can't really be arsed.

Oh, and I can't promise there won't be more in the near future...

  1. Is this this first time that you've asked for your fancy to be tickled? Or has that been there for the last ten years?
Anyhow, once you've finished with the Star Trek insignia you could use this idea with other designs. I shall be expecting something for Christmas now :-)

    1. Oh, no, that little invitation has only been there about a week. I found myself in the blog's settings or somesuch, and came across the 'comment form message' - "Tickle my fancy" was the first thing that popped into my mind!

As for other designs, I had thought of some others before the Starfleet insignia, but they were a bit more complicated, so I chose the lazy route! I shall start thinking about Christmas card designs forthwith!

  2. Brilliant idea! Instead of silver or gold, the bars are little display screens! Sort of 24th century mood rings!

  3. I noticed that comment invitation the other day and...almost said something cheeky. Then I thought I'd probably overdone the cheekiness so I was polite instead.
Y'know, any of those insignia/badge thingies would translate very nicely as modern brooches. In real gold or plantinum and enamel. Not DAS or papier mache with glass beads. Class, darling, class.

    4. I dread to think what might have emerged from Jon's Pandanus, Dinah. Certainly nothing to giggle about, Ms Scarlet!

    1. She's very good, isn't she! What with Dinah's 21st century interpretation, and LẌ's 24th century interpretation, we'll be minted!

    1. Dinah may have class, but she loses a couple of points for introducing an invasive species - giant old ladies will very quickly devour all our stocks of tea and cake! Especially the Fondant Fancies (which is what I was referring to with the invitation to tickle, of course...).

    1. "The Old Lady Effect" - is that the official name for this, now?

*laughs at Margo turning her head in disgust next to the giant old lady's bum at Mitzi's*

  7. My first thought: Cool! Love the models!

My thoughts upon seeing them overlaid on the skies fotos: Ooh, futuristic, chic stained glass windows! Perfect for glamorizing and aggrandizing any temples and cathedrals, be it Gaudi's Sagrada Família or a Bajoran Temple from Deep Space 9. A wheel pattern of these Star Trek Skies Stained windows would rival the rose windows of Notre Dame or Chartres Cathedral.
