You Common Vetch!*

Tiny they may be, these wildflowers that grow in the verges between Château DeVice and its allotment are quite striking close up, if not as showy as those "Triffids in drag" (thank you Jon, Official Plant Spotter of Castle DeVice and its Extensive Witchdom).

Common vetch (Vicia sativa)

Bird's foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus)

Bird's eye speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys)

Red clover (Trifolium pratense), and guest
(possibly a small scissor bee, chelostoma campanularum, or chelostoma rapunculi)

White clover (Trifolium repens)

Ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

Buttercup (possibly Ranaunculus repens)

Cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris), but it could be some other related species

Purple dead nettle (Lamium purpureum)

Common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna)

  2. The wildflowers are gorgeous! What stunning hues and exquisite shapes! The bee pic is awesome! Enjoy the bees as Mago reports the bees in his area seem to have vanished! How incredible and beautiful nature is when left on its own. Great captures!

Is that you fingering the common hawthorn in the last foto? Is that the secret to making plants bloom and grow?

    1. Oh, good gods! I didn't realise that my flesh was on show! Yes, I had to fondle the flowers to bring them into view.

  3. I feel the need to write a story about Veronica Chamaedry and her embarrassing vetch.

  4. Glad that you have bees. It is very alarming that they are disappearing in some locations.

    1. Yes, I'm quite concerned at Mago's lack of bees. Quite concerned, indeed.
