I get up at four in the morning so you don't have to!

Yes, the longest day is here, and didn't it come around quickly!?  Where is the year going?

Anyway, as I'm working today, rather than miss out on the extra few seconds of daytime because I'm stuck in front of a laptop, I thought I'd capture the day so I can experience it tomorrow instead (I have the day off!).  Of course, if any of you, the delightful Blogorati, wish to make use of this day after it's occurred too, then help yourselves!

This is part one.  I'll post part two tonight, soon after it happens.

Late!  (And it's not because Camera's clock is six minutes fast...)

Ah. There you are!

Well, come on then!  Lift that flaming great carcass over the horizon so I can go home.

Right.  My work here is done.  I'll pop back in 17 hours to tuck you in.

: :

[EDIT : 21:50] Well that was disappointing.  A band of cloud on the horizon put paid to seeing the sun dip below the sea.  Ah, well...  I'm off to bedfordshire as I've been up since 4:04am.  Good night!

  2. 4am?! That's "getting in off a night bus" time, not "getting out of bed" time... Jx

    1. I have once been on a night bus in London. I can't remember too much about it though, as I may have had one or two drinks...

    2. That is the only reason to catch one! Although, beware - I have woken up in some unexpected (and unwelcome) places as a consequence... Jx

    3. Were you unwelcome, Jon? Or was it the place itself?

    4. Realising that one has awoken in Tottenham, Enfield Bus Garage, or even worse, Willesden (which is completely the other side of London - that was a sleep-and-a-half!) is a bit of a shock to the system. Jx

  3. 4am!!!!! I thought I was early at 5.40am. Sigh. In 6 weeks time there will be a whiff of Autumn on the air - somehow we must find a way of slowing the clock - my jowls can't take much more pressure from the speeding minute hand .

    1. I don't want to see 4am again for a LONG time!

To prevent flapping jowls, just turn on the air-con and close the window, Ms Scarlet.

    1. And yet, I still have to smother myself with sunscreen - no one wants a burnt gnomon, Mago!

  5. Oh, thank you for capturing this so beautifully. It is my favorite day of the year... and I think it should be a holiday! The longest day of the year.... I always get up at about 5:00 am (used to be 3:30 am, but no commute now) - and I enjoyed this day all the way until 11:00 pm. Thank you for the lovely photos. Looking forward to part II.

    1. I quite agree: both the longest and shortest days should be holidays. And the day after each in order to get over it all!

Ah, about Part II... Ther's not much to see unfortunately, as a band of cloud on the horizon obscured the sunset. However, I have got an out-of-the-window snap from a couple of days ago that might make up for it. I'll include it in my next post.

  6. Getting up early to record the day to be experienced on another occasion kind of sums up our society.

    1. It probably won't be long before we can rewind days...

Ah, no, not Bedford itself. Perish the thought!
