An Assemblage of Aquilegias*

Oof!  Sorry I'm late.  In between the Watching of the Telly (I watched Tremors on Netflix last night - I'd forgotten what a fox Fred Ward is [Kevin Bacon was rather cute, too]), it's been all go here lately, so I haven't been able to get around to see what you've all been up to, nevermind pop something of my own up!  However, here's a little something from the allotment to tide us over until normal service resumes.

 Hopefully soonish.

Oh, and I'll reply to all your comments from the last couple of posts, too.

Apologies for my blatant fingering, but almost all of these Aquilegias were extremely camera-shy, so I had to lift their heads to get a good shot.

"Aaaiiieeeee!  A camera!  Look away!"

This is where most of the Aquilegias live - amongst the foxgloves and comfrey around an apple tree

Some bluebell interlopers

These Aquilegias at the bottom of the allotment near the shed are the only ones who aren't camera-shy

* Not to be confused with 2015's An Allotment of Aquilegias, or 2017's An Assortment of Aquilegias.

  2. Aquilegias are simply wonderful plants! I'd guess all of these are self-hybridised blooms? They are the absolute slags of the flower world, and swap pollen with any other one that comes even close! We have a beautiful powder-blue and white one, and a floriferous dusky pink, but our massive (American) yellow variety gave up the ghost this winter. Thankfully we collected seed from that and sowed them this Spring, and we have random seedlings popping up in pots all over - but heaven only knows what exactly we get out of all or any of them! There'll be another year to wait before any sign of flowers, no doubt... Jx

PS I was getting worried you had "Mistress MJ syndrome" and were just going to sod off from blogging and spend your life under a duvet.

    1. Speaking of MJ....its spring...shouldn't she be tending to her bush?

    2. You guess correctly, Jon. There might have been one or two intentionally planted there once upon a time, but they clearly indulged in multiple orgies as now look at them!

No, no Very Mistress-style semi-retirement from blogging for me. At least, not any time soon. I've just had a lot to do this past week or two, but it's almost done now.

  3. I can't tell you how incredibly happy those Aquilegias made me. Such stunning and delicately chic flowers they are. I like those as much ...well ....almost as much as your life preserve in wet trunks.!!!! You've got a wonderful garden thumb. As if my boy crush on you wasn't enough.

    1. They're beautiful, aren't they. And much better looking than me (especially when I'm wearing trunks - which reminds me: it'll soon be the season!) - as well as far more promiscuous (as Jon pointed out above)!

  4. I've never minded a good fingering... just saying. My, how your garden grows. Who lives with you? Doris Day? I planted a bunch of stuff at The Boyfriend's place this weekend. Like four hours one day and five hours the next. It's a crap shoot. If they survive the week I give them a 50/50 chance of surviving the summer. Fingers... (hee hee)... crossed.

    1. At least you can enjoy them vicariously here, and at Jon's & Madam Arcati's.

  6. Your nimble fingers are obviously the cure for the dreaded droop in all manner of things, Mr Devine.
    I love Tremors - it's always worth a watch.

Good grief, Mistress Maddie! It is I who tends a magnificent bush - how quickly people forget! I go away for 5 seconds, and I then appear to be deleted from the collective memory! This almost makes me want to flounce off in a huff, but I am not that sort.

    Sx

    1. I remember....but I thought maybe The Mistress's was getting so unruly, maybe you lent some assistance....

    2. Couldn't have said it better myself, Ms Scarlet!

It's why I always went home with the bass player when seducing a whole band of men. I married the one that stole my clothes. What else was a nymph to do but make herself at home?

    3. Ha ha haa! Other than gardening, my fingers - nimble as they still are - are very much out of practice!

  7. Love the pictures, fingers included! Happy to see signs of life. One of the frustrating things about blogging is when people go MIA and I can't just bus over and say, "Hey, are you okay? Do you need help? Do you need a proxy to fight for you?"

    1. Ah, yes, here I am! All okay - it was just busyness with various other things that kept me away, but they're almost all dealt with now, so normal service shall be resumed shortly.

  8. I think it should be 'A Joy of Aquilegias'
    They certainly are a joy.
Fab collection of colours and types.

    1. A joy, indeed! And, as Jon pointed out, complete slags - which is good, because otherwise we wouldn't have such a variety.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
