Not So Manic Now

It's a rainy Sunday morning here on the North Norfolk coast, so while I get on with all the things I didn't do yesterday (due to a hot and sunny morning followed by an invasion of various family - mainly sisters and cousins - in the afternoon), I'll leave you with these photos of a setting sun, and a bit of music from Dubstar.

The photos were taken from behind Château Device in Tuesday evening - that's Overstrand's main beach in the third & fourth photos with the tide halfway in (or out - I can't remember what it was doing at the time).

Dubstar were one of my favourite bands in the mid-late 90s, despite lead singer Sarah Blackwood's Northern accent.  In fact, I found it quite intriguing because accents don't tend to come through very strongly when singing.  In my limited experience, anyway.

"Not So Manic Now" was the third single from Dubstar's debut album Disgraceful, and "No More Talk" & "I Will Be Your Girlfriend" are from their second album, Goodbye.

  1. Oh I know what you mean about Manchester. Now a Geordie can get me to do anything.
That said I can't hear Sarah Blackwood's accent and bizarrely have never heard these songs before in my life. It must have been because I was living in Leeds at the time!

    1. Now you've said that, I suspect that what it means in Birmingham (and surrounding environs) is more sordid than what it means in Derbyshire (which is where my usage of the word comes from - The Mother's family are from Derbyshire)...

    2. Well hardly sordid lol you just wouldn't want it done to you. Or is Cedplop a masochist?

    3. He isn't usually - he'll run away from pretty much anything that might move. Except me!

  3. How did Dubstar pass me by? I will have to investigate further.
Glorious sunshine here in Devon this morning....

    1. I felt sure you would have been a Dubstar fan, Ms Scarlet? I thought they'd be your cup of tea.

  4. At first glance of the top pix, I was afraid that a lava eruption was overtaking Château Device. Whew!

  5. Oh, I loved that song Not So Manic Now when it came out - gulp - twenty-three years ago! Apparently the band is still going, but without the saintly Sarah... Jx

    1. I know! Once I realised how long it had been since I bought Disgraceful, I looked at the rest of my music collection and realised that much of it is about a quarter of a century old!

    2. Only a quarter of a century? Some of the mainstays of my collection are practically Jurassic. Blondie's Parallel Lines is forty years old this year, Bowie's Scary Monsters is 38, and Kate Bush Hounds of Love was released 33 years ago. Even more scarily, the great Stock-Aitken-Waterman boom that spawned Kylie, Rick, Mel & Kim, Sinitta and Bananarama was four decades ago. Gulp!

  6. The sunset pics are gorgeous and stunning! Thanks for sharing these and for introducing me to Dubstar. I love a woman who sings about being a prostitute...although, the idea of gum under my shoe is irritating...I hate it when that happens!!

    1. Dubstar's lyrics are really fascinating. I don't normally pay much heed to what's being sung about with most artists, but bands like Dubstar, The Divine Comedy, and Goldfrapp (when I can work out what Allison Goldfrapp is harping on about) have me listening intently.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
