Photos From a Lost Weekend

This past weekend might as well not have happened.  I'll spare you the details as I don't want to remember it.
However, I did manage to escape for an hour on Sunday with the excuse that I had to give Car a run as the snow had mostly melted and the roads were clear (poor Car had been sitting under a blanket of snow for half the week).  We drove along the coast to Happisburgh (pronounced Haysbruh) and spent five minutes at the lighthouse before deciding it was too windy and overcast to walk on the beach and driving home again.

Happisburgh Lighthouse - once repainted by Anneka Rice and her "Challenge Anneka" team.

Happisburgh's groynes are even more battered and dilapidated than Overstrand's!

These long-tailed tits visting the bird feeder on Saturday also made the weekend bearable.

Beaky's Apprentice.  Yes, the little bastard has an underling who he's training to take over his evil empire one day!

  1. One feels that given the pronunciation of Happisburgh, lighthouse should be pronounced lightus. And Beaky, b'stard, obvs.

    1. Oog. I don't want some bloodbath on the paysho when Beaky chops his apprentice's wing off with a beak-sabre.

  3. Yay! The long tails are back! Your birds are gorgeous! And their different coloring makes them look stylish! It's like a nature special in your backyard! What spectacular captures of such splendid creatures!

The lighthouse and surrounding area look stunning against the chilly backdrop. The sea shots are interesting, especially with the old groynes still poking up.

I'm sure the gov't will get around to finally correcting the spelling of Haysbruh (Happisburgh) on the map. It's on the list of place names to correct, right after Grinitch (Greenwich), Tams (Thames), Gumster (Godmanchester), Redding (Reading), Mowzel (Mousehole), and Whoresauce (Worcestershire).

    1. Surprisingly, it was only slightly chilly in Haysbruh (even though those photos seem like they tell a different story). I kept warm enough in my hoody without having to resort to a coat and scarf.

Your place names are rather spot-on. Except for Whoresauce - but it's so fabulous that I might just end up using it from now on!
      (locally, we also have "Crewmer"/Cromer, "Sharenum"/Sheringham, "Rowtun"/Roughton, and "Ellshum"/Aylsham)

    2. Eroswings, you've uncannily hit on the true meaning of Worcester!

    3. Hound, I can never pronounce their name right, but I love their sauce!

  4. I'm willing to go along with sucky weekdays, but crappy weekends are totally unacceptable. It seems like you should be able to go to your work and announce "This weekend sucked. I demand a do-over." And then get it, by god, and be allowed to go take another crack at a perfectly nice weekend.

  5. The weekend seems like it was in a different season... from frozen fingers on Friday to sauntering along the lanes with my coat undone on the following Tuesday - I am confused!

    1. It can only be the End of Times, Ms Scarlet.

At the risk of exciting certain members of the congregation, how many buttons were undone on your coat - all of them? (or how far down was the zip - all the way?)

    2. Speaking of members of the congregation, I haven't seen Mago about for a little while, and the comments are closed on his last two posts. Have you heard from him?

    3. Zips and buttons akimbo! Scarf loosened and askew! Though, on a serious note, the thermal vest was still tucked in knickers.
Mr Mags... I have not heard from him... but I believe he is having technical difficulties and I'm not sure if he can email. Mr Lax will know.

    4. Yes, unfortunately Herr Mago is having computer difficulties. Recently he has only randomly resurfaced when he can borrow access.

  6. The photograph with the groynes, it looks like Armageddon is about to arrive.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
