Not Beaky. Mostly...

I know it's only been ten days since Beaky was last inflicted upon you - and some of you may still not be over the shock of seeing Beaky brazenly bathing, baring all - but, apart from the headline photo, all the rest are Beaky-free.
Well, except for one as I couldn't resist humiliating the strident little pest!

The following photos were taken this morning:

A male chaffinch pecking up scraps

A greenfinch.  It's good to see a greenfinch as, last year, most of them around here suffered from some sort of disease that killed them off.  There were sad little greenfinch corpses all over the place.

A chaffinch

A young, or female chaffinch

A greenfinch on a fly-by

That male chaffinch again

A great tit and the female chaffinch sharing the feeder

A better shot of the great tit on its own

A robin

The robin again

A colourful goldfinch

"Huh?  What's going on down there?"

Ah hah hah hah haaaaaa!  Beaky caught having a shit in the big bird bog!
(for non-Brits, bog = toilet)

The following three photos are from 14th January - they've been languishing in an unfinished blog post until now.

Great tit

Blue tit

  1. Tbh Mrs B looks like a proper harridan who gives better than she gives!
Do we know why birds all crap in the same place? Is it territorial?

    1. She is somewhat of a shrew. And extremely shrill!

That plant pot "toilet" isn't even the half of it. You haven't seen the rest of the paysho - it is absolutely covered in bird shit!

    1. With all these tits, it's a good job I've got the "adult content" warning enabled!

  3. You best get Beaky toilet trained dear....and he is much more sleek then Mrs. Beaky, as are all males. Your Robin over there look much different then ours as do you finches. Our finch have not returned yet, but their brilliant yellow.

    1. Quite honestly, I don't know how Beaky manages to stay in shape with the amount he wolfs down, the glutton.

I've seen photos of your robins - they're huge! The size of Beaky!

  4. I see Beaky is doing his part to fertilize your garden. He does have some use when he's not being evil. And Mrs Beaky looks as if she's poised to belt out " Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" ("Hell's vengeance boils in my heart")!

The birds are stunning! Hooray for the return of the green finch! The tits look amazing! Great or blue, tits are a wonderful sight! And I love the coloration of the gold finch (he looks more multicolored than gold, but gold is shorter to spell). His makeup/face mask is fierce! The robin looks fantastic in vibrant sunset orange! What a spectacular Robin! Is Batman nearby?

Awesome fotos! I imagine there must be a lot of twittering and singing in your yard.

    1. I suppose Beaky does have some uses. I just wish his aim was a little better. And I must suggest joining the opera to Mrs Beaky - she'd be perfect in "The Magic Flute".

I think all the Twitter coverage is keeping Batman away - he doesn't like the spotlight.

  5. I've been watching Cardinals, male and female, along with robins, and the cutest little sparrows go nuts in my back yard! I guess they're enjoying the worms and assorted other little bits that have come to the surface. I do enjoy watching them flip about the jasmine outside the breakfast room window. Your photos are lovely! xoxo

    1. I've seen cardinals over at Mistress Maddie's - they're stunning, aren't they. You're very lucky to have such vibrant garden birds.

  6. Yes, tits and finches and robins-all lovely. But i can't get over the jasmine! After the horrors of the Beast the jasmine is STILL romping away.no wonder some consider it a weed!

    1. Funny you should mention the jasmine. There's another one by the front door that got blown about by the Beast, so it was decided to remove it. However, it had sent up new shoots everywhere that its stems had touched the ground! I think it's going to strangle the chateau!

  7. I have wagtails, and I am looking forward to seeing the bull finches again. Although it's been chilly the birds have been singing, which has made it feel Spring like.
Maybe I should put out a pot for the poop, at present they use the car roof.

    1. I've only seen one wagtail in the garden, and that was when the Beast visited (not Mr Beastie) - it appeared to have been blown off course, poor thing. And we don't get bullfinches here either, although they do visit the allotment up the road.

I'm glad you mentioned the birds' toilet - I must wash Car!

  8. We have a profusion of (mainly weed) trees lining what laughingly passes for "the access lane" at the back of ours, so a huge variety of birds congregate there every day. So fa, we've seen Beaky's cousins the blackbirds, some goldfinches and chaffinches, robins, wrens, loads of tits (Great, Blue and Long-tailed) and a whole murder of crows... Jx
