Toad in the Road*

The other day, I was up at the allotment gathering ingredients to make a potato salad for The Mother's birthday.  On my way back, this fine specimen attempted to block my way.  It was lucky I didn't decide to make a different dish entirely!

Oh, and this time I really did intend to make potato salad!

 P. S.  I couldn't pick any raspberries because these two dragonflies were doing it all over the canes!

  * It's not really a road - more of a track...

. . . . .

EDIT 13:15

I found this Grey Dagger moth caterpillar happily munching its way through a rose in the garden today:

EDIT 11 09 2021 07:55

I forgot about this White Ermine moth caterpillar that I discovered up at the allotment on 24th August:

  1. I'm sure you could make something spectacular from the toad, perhaps coat it in a light beer batter and deep fry it, be a lovely treat for your mother and will make the perfect accompaniment to your potato salad.

    1. The thought did occur to me, but I was stumped as to which wine would accompany it best.

    4. I doubt I would ever be caught using, as Jilly Goolden has, descriptions of wines as:

      Wooden bra
      Absolute mangoes
A wheelbarrow full of ugli fruit
Sweaty gym shoes on hot tarmac

      Jx

    5. Ew. I don't fancy the sweaty gym shoes wine much.

I used to love all their bizarro descriptions for wine, but the only one I can remember (which may even have been from an advert) is "a whoosh of hollyhocks right up your nose!".

  2. I am dodging squashed frogs and toads on the Devon lanes - nice to see one alive and well in Norfolk.

    1. It's always so sad to see squished amphibia. I hope this one made it across the track before it got trodden on or run over. (I did check the track for a flattened corpse the next day, but there was none, so I'm assuming it crossed safely)

    1. I'll have you know the wartiness of my wand has been GREATLY overexaggerated (Very Mistress - I'm looking at you!)!
If it was ever warty in the first place.
      Which it was not.

Anyway, I am available for shooting film. As you can see, I am quite unobtrusive, and can get quite close to the subjects without putting them off.

    2. I'm too tired to post the photographic proof of your warty wand but everyone knows I'm right.

    1. Thank you, Upton. I was very lucky to see this one amongst the scruff. In fact, it was lucky I saw it in time to avoid it!

  7. Goodness it's difficult to move there for all the creatures and shagging.
I recently discovered that Cromer has a hotel bizarrely called the Hôtel de Paris, and I don't want to know anything else about your home in case it gets even more surreal.

    1. And it's not even mating season!

I won't tell you about the time Cromer's football ground almost had to be moved because of the death of a Norwegian King's last remaining decendant then...

P.S. Lovely to "see" you, Beast!

    2. It lives! Beast, I mean. Not my merkin. If I had one, which I most assuredly do NOT.

    3. Do not worry, Very Mistress - I'm sure your non-existent merkin resides within the Vault of Unreal Things along with (but certainly not alongside) my *cough*warty*cough* wand.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
