Tunes on Tuesday!

I have found some new music without having to rely on Jon's efforts to keep me up-to-date!  Well, sort of...

This assortment has been painstakingly handpicked from a select pot-pourri of TV shows, websites, and blogs (i.e. Jon's!).

The haunting and beautiful "Sangue Latino" comes from my recent rewatch of Cidade Invisível (Invisible City) on Netflix.  It's actually sung by Mariana Froes, and there's an extended version (without the actors doing their acting thing pre-and-post performance).  Although, by "extended" I mean it's played twice.

This Dune preview track I discovered at Tor.comI probably won't see the film as I'm sure it can't hold a candle to David Lynch's 1984 version.

"I Hope You're Happy" by Blue October came from the "What are you listening to?" thread at a certain Star Trek forum that I frequent (the one for which I do all those Trek Art things).  It reminds me somewhat of a song that would play in a slightly edgy rom-com, perhaps when the protagonist and the object of their affection part ways mid-way through the film, before making a triumphant reconcilliation!  Maybe.

"The Killing Moon" is from "I'm Not Okay With This" - another Netflix rewatch.

While certainly not new, this remastered edition of "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell is new to me.  I think it was mentioned at Jon's sometime reasonably recently.

"Chaeri" by Magdalena Bay is another find from the Trek forum.  I only listened to it because I was curious about its description of being "vaporwave" music (whatever that is?!?), or somesuch.  Anyway, I love it!

And, finally, a little bit of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, as it's been a while.

  1. I can safely say that your rediscovery of Mr Campbell's masterwork was not my doing, as the only time I ever featured him (and this song) was in a rather convoluted blog post way back in 2008...

I will listen to your selection and return asap. Promise. Jx

    1. Oh, I'm sure I saw mention of "Wichita Lineman" in the comments somewhere (not the actual post)? Maybe it was at someone else's where you also commented? My poor, poor memory...

  2. Having listened to them all now; thoughts...

Oh, I do hope you followed the link from that first clip to the original Ney Matogrosso version - it's a sight to behold!

Hans Zimmer? I hear enough of him on Classic FM. And I did not like the Blue October thing at all.

Magdalena Bay, on the other hand, would be great 4am-end-of-a-drunken-party-now-everyone's-gone-home kind of music; and who could not love the back-to-back combination of Echo and the Bunnymen and Glen Campbell - and Sophie too?

    Excellent. Jx

    1. I had a suspicion that you wouldn't like Blue October - it has more than a sniff of teen-anxt soft-rock about it, but it grew on me. Magdalena Bay was a surprise - I must get around to listening to some more of their stuff.

As for that Ney Matogrosso version of "Sangue Latino": Blimey!

  3. I am coming to your disco, hon. These are my kind of fun. Sophie alone is worth the price of admission... Adore. What a great cut. Can't wait for the remixes. Blue October? Echo and The Bunny Men! You got me, babe. On that floor. Oh, and as for that first one... check out this from 1973 - way ahead of its time... Secos & Molhados - Sangue Latino - YouTube Thanks for the beats. Kizzes. P.S. I wanna go out on a real date with that dude from Blue October.

    1. Blue October Man reminds me of someone, but I can't put my finger on who. If you get to put a finger (or more) on him on your date, "I hope you're happy"?! ;)

Crikey! That's a look! Thanks for the Secos & Molhados link (the earlier version of the one Jon linked to).

  4. Oh! I am always playing The Killing Moon - one of my favourites!
Crikey - don't the Bunnymen look young?! I was like that once - young, I mean. I never pretended to be in the Scottish Widows advert.

    1. I always wanted to be the Scottish Widow! She was so mysterious and elegant, with just the right amount of movie breeze to make her cloak billow fabulously!

  5. I'm so glad you mentioned Invisible City! We watched it upon your recommendation some months back. The hubs tried to objectively say Camellia's hair was gorgeous and I said, "Her everything is gorgeous!!! I'd work my damnedest to be the best possible lesbian partner if someone like her were interested in me! It's okay to look, dear. You're married, not dead."

I like most of these. I would definitely have fun at any party of yours, especially with you and all these other lovely people here to talk too! I tend to like the darker, edgier stuff myself. I'll drop a few links on Proxima Blue for you. For awhile my hubs and I both had a crush on Neko Case. Its nice to share crushes with your S.O. I would never have married if I hadn't found someone with which I could share a deep level of mutual trust and respect with.

    1. Camila is quite stunning, isn't she. And Eric is not exactly the Elephant Man! I hope you liked Invisible City?

I totally agree with the crush-sharing. SP and I shared two or three lustful crushes while we were together, but mostly our tastes differed. Which is just as well, as we weren't particularly good at sharing other things.

  6. Yes, we did like it! Hopefully there will be more seasons. I see a lot of myself in the Moth Woman. (I forgot her name.) I'm very protective of those I consider "my people" which can lead me to be unintentionally destructive at times. Yes, Eric is attractive too!

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
