Gulls & Groynes Against Golden Glamour

The sunlight bouncing off the window frames of this building on the High Street looked far more dramatic and golden in real life.  Bah!

Now that the Calamities are over with (for now, anyway), and the post I was going to publish has yet to be finished, I thought I'd fall back on that old staple of millions thousands nearly dozens of photos of pretty much the same thing over and over and over again (because I know you love like almost tolerate them).  Yes, it's sunrise time!

And to accompany your incessant scrolling through this post, how about a little music.  This is "Rescue" by Röyksopp which, to my mind anyway, goes rather nicely with a long, drawn-out sunrise over the sea.  And it's only just over 10 minutes long - you might even get to the end of this post before it finishes!

The photo above and the first nine below are from yesterday morning:

Cromer Pier

You grumpy little sod, Beaky!

oOo

And here are this morning's photos.  Normally I'd whittle them down a bit more than I have done, but I'm tired and I can't easily choose which ones to keep and which to discard.  I'd also try and put them in some sort of order, but that would be even more effort, so these are just in the order that I took them.  Besides, there are only 20...

I disturbed this little muntjac deer as I made my way down the cliff to the promenade

oOo

As a little treat for making it all the way to the end, here's Malcolm McLaren's "Aria on Air" (from the 90s British Airways ad) - a favourite of mine that has recently found its way back on to my playlist.

  1. As always such a nice collection of photos. I loved seeing some picture from in your town for a change. Looks charming. The one with the Cromer Pier, and the building up on the hill, feels as though I could picture Miss Marple walking down the hill to the pier.

And Beaky loves you. He seems to follow you see....

    1. Do you know, I think the only other photo of Overstrand village proper that appears on this blog is one that was taken at night (for the stars) on the other end of the High Street.
Yes, here it is (last photo, and you can't really make out very much).

I don't think Beaky would take too kindly to Miss Marple doddering about - she might discover his crimes!

  2. Those sunrise photos are worthy of being on the cover of an Ibiza chill-out compilation album from the Noughties...

    Fab-u-lous! Jx

I think I have today's soundtrack sorted now, thank you. Although it's a bit late because it is now cold and windy outside...

  3. A beautiful collection. Such utter placidity. Is the air moist? I looks chilly but lovely. I know Röyksopp from something I have... now I have to go dig in that damn cabinet and find it. And Malcolm McLaren. You had him over the pond and we had Kim Fowley. We got the Runaways and The New York Dolls (McLaren), you got The Sex Pistols, Adam Ant, and Bow Wow Wow. Thanks for the sunrise and the memories.

    1. So, here's life being all full of coincidence or magic or something. After writing the above, I get out my kindle and notice that there is music that I'd purchase on Amazon on the kindle. I start looking and there they are: Röyksopp, doing a collaboration with Robyn! And I just happened to see it almost immediately without even looking for it. Isn't that strange? The universe? Some kind of Stevie Nicks magic man stuff there. :)

    2. Oh, the song is called Do It Again. :)

    3. I'm a big fan of Röyksopp and Robyn, and really like their Do It Again EP. In fact, most of Röyksopp's collaborations are winners to my ears - especially those with Susanne Sundfør, and Jamie "Irrepressible" McDermott.

As for the moistness, Upton, aside from the occasional flick of spray, the air was quite dry. Even at 6:30am. Tuesday morning was quite cool though, but yesterday morning was relatively warm. However, today has seen the temperatures plummet down to "normal" for this time of year.

  5. Ahhh...back to your lovely beach shots.

    1. Ooh, yes! Jellyfish and waves would be lovely, thank you! Especially as I'm all the way over here , out of the danger.

  6. Bestial I call it, going out and disturbing deer and worrying sheep.
The McLaren has been ruined for me by the ad, but he did so well in those races.

    1. Funny you should mention sheep, a ewe with three adorable, gamboling lambs has just appeared in a little paddock next to the allotment. They're so sweet that they make me sick!
The disturbed deer was an accident - it was lurking in the undergrowth as I went by, and disturbed me as much as I disturbed it, I should think. It shot off almost as fast as a McLaren F1!

  7. Glorious sun shots, Mr Devine!! Still glorious weather in Devon, if a little chilly.
Will we have snow on the beach by Monday?

    1. Snow is a possibility, Ms Scarlet. I keep checking the forecast in the hope that the wind and snow was all a horrible mistake, but it appears not. Snowy gales, with the wind chill making it feel like -4.
It looks like Devon will be spared the brunt of it. Perhaps you'd better get out there with your camera?

    1. Thank you, Ms Nations. North Norfolk can be quite good at putting on a show!

  9. I am always impressed with your photos and these are no exception.
10 minuets of listening to helicopter rota blades was not really my cup of tea but I loved Malcolm McLaren's "Aria on Air". I can't remember the last time I heard that. Loved it.
Lovely to see a photo of Overstrand, it does look charming. I must look it up.

    1. Why, thank you, Madam A. Although, I do apologise about the helicopter (I won't be able to listen to that in the same way again, now...).

Overstrand is known as the Village of Millionaires, so you'd better check your bank balance before paying a visit!
