Oh, Puffballs!

 It's a Thursday, which means that I went down to the thin sliver of beach (tide was very, very in) this morning and threw myself in the sea.  However, other than cormorants (and a seal) nothing much of note was going on down there, so today's post is a bit of a mish-mash of stuff from the last few days instead.
 First up: a couple of puffballs that have sprung (puffed?) up just up the road.  The Mother thinks they look like skulls...

::

 On Sunday, we had a visitor: a hummingbird hawkmoth.
 Don't worry, it stayed in the garden and social distancing was observed.

::

 Speaking of gardens, here's my little shady patch behind the garage:

 Oh, and an informal reminder that The House of Infomaniac 10th Anniversary Garden Photos Event is being held here, on this very blog, in three months or so (around the end of October/beginning of November), so I hope you are all documenting how your gardens grow with plenty of photographs?

::

 And, finally, some dramatic sky photos from yesterday evening (8-9pm) when I wandered along the prom.  There are also some people(!), so beware.

I don't know what's going on here?  A group of seacows and a twat with a guitar...

I like this photo because of the way the evening sun is hitting the cliffs over in Sidestrand and Trimingham.  Oh, and the lady in the black top and white capri pants walking her dog is my neighbour from my previous abode, Château DeVice!

I thought the strip of cloud along the top of the bottom third of this photo
(the bit that dips in the middle) looks like it is hosting a floating city.

More cloud cities above

This particular cloud reminded me of the Starship Enterprise™ (NCC-1701-D, Picard's Enterprise)

  1. My favorite photo in this batch is the 5th beach photo with the little glimpse of the path. Couldn't be more perfects.

    Now I have two of those puff balls Id like you to look at if you wouldn't mind and have time....

    1. That little path is the one I mostly use to access the beach away from The Hoardes (behind you, as you look at that photo).

      I hope your puffballs are in better shape than those two!?

  2. This morning we woke up to puff ball mushrooms everywhere. Ugh.

    1. As if you'd been subjected to giant marshmallow hail, Cookie?

  3. I saw my first hummingbird moth a few years ago in my garden. I thought it was an alien! They're really remarkable looking creatures.

    Your garden is an oasis.

    1. That little shady area definitely is an oasis. MY oasis! I slink off there to escape from the drudgery of work, or the shrillness of visiting Sisters/Nieces, or from the sun etc. etc.

      The hummingbird hawkmoths really are fascinating to watch. Alien - certainly to we who live in cooler climes - but for how much longer, I wonder? Maybe global warming will see real hummingbirds move into our neighbourhoods?

  4. I love the Starship Enterprise clouds!
    I saw some puffballs the other day and thought they were screwed up balls of paper until I looked closer.
    I also like your floating cloud city - if only it were real and we could all escape to it.

    1. I must admit, initally, I did think those puffballs were just blobs of expanding foam discarded from when the Device Mansion (et al) were built a couple of years ago.

      Perhaps we can escape to a cloud city in an Over The Cusp adventure - we're about due for another, don't you think?

  5. Yes, dwarves' skulls was my first idea ... Fort writes somewhere about a collection of small coffins with figurines that was found in Scotland (?) - uaaahh ....
    I prefer to focus on the really nice scetch behind the garage - and what a good photograph it is too.

    1. Maybe Fort stumbled across some Nac Mac Feegle graves?

      Afternoon tea will be served at 4pm in the shady garden. Sun hats not required.

  6. The cloud cities reminded me of Gulliver's floating islands of Laputa.
    And if all of us who love your shady patch descended on you we'd be a bit squished, I think! Looks fabulous, though.

    1. I wish the photos had turned out better - seeing the clouds with my own (admittedly poor) eyes enabled better distinction and more "city-ness".

      I think there might just be enough space in my shady garden for one more - I'll just get The Very Mistress and Mago to budge up a bit.

  7. Skulls or not, they look fascinating. Are they the sort Evadne Hinge used to eat or are they poisonous?

    1. I suspect Evadne might be able to polish off one of these - but she'll have to be quick before the spores develop and it becomes inedible.

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
