Did I Win Yet? Grand Quiz Results

 It's the moment you've all been waiting for! Well, the moment that a handful of you might have been idly speculating about...
 Yes, for the nearly five* of you who asked "Did I win yet?" it's time to reveal who actually did win the Dinahmow-sponsored Did I Win Yet? Grand Quiz held in honour of "A Friend", LẌ.

 First, let's have a look at the questions, and the answers as provided by the select Blogorati who could be bothered to enter:

1. We all know that LẌ was Chief Pillow Fluffer for The Very Mistress over at Infomaniac, but what other official service did he provide?
  • Personal IT Consultant to The Mistress. (Oooh, this quiz is easy)
  • IT services
  • Mr von LAX is the Official I.T. Specialist of The Mistress
  • LX served as the Mistress's body double in her ill-advised attempt at geriatric porn
The official service, of course, is:  Personal IT Consultant to The Mistress, although I will accept variations on that theme - i.e. those other two answers.
I don't think LẌ's body-double services were ever "official"...

::

2. What is the title of LẌ's unofficial and unauthorised biography which featured in this very blog earlier in the year?
  • "Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an IT expert. Oh... wait..."
  • "Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor, not an IT expert. Oh... wait..."
  • The title reads "Did I WIn Yet ? I'm, uh ... Asking For a Friend"
  • Did I Win Yet? A Tale of Tears and Triumph
And the biography's title (not the post's title that the biography featured in) is: Damn it, Jim! I'm a doctor not an IT expert. Oh... wait... so two correct answers here.

::

3. Who got LẌ to ask all those awkward questions (and did all his ageing for him since taking on his birthdays)?
  • A "Friend"
  • A friend
  • Not me ! This picture in the attic, maybe a friend ?!
  • You?
It is, of course, the infamous "a friend" which three of you got right.  As for the other one: Rude!

::

4. Which comic strip couple were the inspiration (and basis) for my Not The Art of Star Trek entry, Disco78?
  • How would I know? I don't speak Klingon. (This quiz is getting harder now. I should have known you'd toss Star Trek into the mix.)
  • A Calvin and Hobbes inspired Starbase disco
  • Not Lolek & Bolek, but C & H
  • Fred Flinstone and Dagwood Bumstead, the secret gays in full sight
Calvin and Hobbes, indeed!  While only Hobbes actually featured in Disco78 as seen in the Not the Art of Star Trek Award, both Calvin and Hobbes were mentioned in the earlier Delightful Discovery Award.  Well done to the two of you who got this right.

::

5. Which two Blogorati appeared first in our adventure over the Cusp this year?
And for a bonus point, what method of transport did they transmogrify the TARDIS-a-like HVMS Infomaniac into?
  • Peenee and Norma
  • "Norma-D2 switched the Chameleon Circuit on and, around them, the HVMS Infomaniac transformed into a greenhouse. Albeit a greenhouse with row upon row of black, shiny push-buttons lining the glass walls and ceiling, each one with an accompanying label to its right. C3-Peenee was incredulous."
  • Norma with the probulator & Peenee with the Golden Finger
  • Me and that horrid Norma tramp
Who else but Peenee and Norma!  As for the bonus point, I'm not awarding it because although there is mention of a greenhouse, the actual method of transport is the Great Glass Elevator as confirmed in The Pink Carriage of No Horse Drawn.

::

6. Which member of the Blogorati introduced me/us to 2Cellos?
  • Jon
  • Jon
  • Dolores de Largo - oh la la ...
  • Speaking of horrid tramps, Jon
Another full house here.  And thank you once again, Jon.

::

7. Who was Aljaž Skorjanec's dance partner on this year's Strictly Come Dancing, and which side of him should she be on?
  • Neil Charleston? I don't know what side she should be on but I know you'd like to be UNDER Aljaz
  • Emma Weymouth and she should be on the left
  • A straw puppet wriggling to the left ? That strange (cannibalistic) vegetable MsScarlet once presented ?
  • I don't know, but he was cute and could really flail his legs about
Full marks (2) to the Pale Blue-green (aqua??) Blogorati!  The delicious Aljaž's celebrity dance partner was Emma Weymouth and she should be on his left during the ballroom routines (as confirmed in the final picture of the Funny Face Award).  Orange, you get a point for the "left" remark, and Pale Purple (lavender?) & Red, just YES!

::

8. Where did "Canable Man" feature?  (And how should it be spelled?)
  • I don't know where "Canable Man" featured but I'm guessing it's spelled Cannibal Man
  • ??????? Grrrrr. In a picture somewhere in the post? Should it be spelt Cannibal Man?
  • Sorry, I'm distracted by Ms Scarlet's mini skirt uniform. I found no canned man. I know Canned Heat, canned meat, and avoided the can too., But I'm sorry, no can man.
  • Human sacrifices
Now, I'm rather surprised that this one caused such confusion.  "Canable Man" featured on Dinahmow's treasure map in the Marvellous Maps Award and should, of course, have been spelled "Cannibal Man", so half a point each to Red and Blue-green.

::

9. Which month featured a "load of seamen" clogging up the rigging?
  • August
  • August!!! But, in reality, don’t they feature every month?
  • August
  • All of them?
If only, Blue-green and Purple.  If only...  But, yes, August it was.

::

10. What does The Very Mistress claim is NOT a competition?
  • The Annual Infomaniac Garden Photos Event!
  • The Infomaniac gardening photo event
  • Her annual lady garden presentation
  • Life
Bwah hah hah hah hah haa!  Please, Very Mistress, please change the name of The Annual Infomaniac Garden Photos Event to The Mistress's Annual Lady Garden Presentation!?!

::

11. What's my favourite cake?
  • Victoria Sponge Cake!
  • Killian Belliard
  • Schwarzwälder. Mit Schuss ? (Means to put some Kirschwasser in Your coffee. Good thing on cold sunny afternoons.)
  • Cigarette Butt Layer Cake
I said "cake" not "cock", Blue-green!  Full points to Orange with Schwarzwälder - AKA, Black Forest Gateau - which was mentioned as part of the Commentaire d'Intrigue Award.

::

12. How many acres of block paving make up Mogs Mill?
  • How should I know? (Disgruntled that a math question is involved.)
  • 42!!!!
  • 42. Seriously, what else ?!
  • Lots and lots. Tremendously lots
Yes, the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything: 42!  Mogs Mill's 42 acres of block paving can be found on Ms Scarlet's map of Mogwash as featured in the Marvellous Maps Award.

::

13. Before the wind changed enabling LẌ to use a hot air balloon, what had he asked Ms Scarlet, Beast, Mago, and The Very Mistress to steal for him to fly home on?
  • Broom
  • The Wizard’s broom??? I DON’T KNOW, I NEED A CUP OF TEA AND A BISCUIT NOW!!!
  • We stole IDVs broom !
  • Norma
I can't help but imagine Norma, inflated like some sort of Violet Beauregarde-esque zeppelin - little hands and feet sticking out at the edges - floating away into the sky!  Much as I'd love Purple to be right, the answer is Broom (as evidenced in The I.T. Wizard of Oz), so one point each to Red and Orange (and a grudging half-point to Blue-green if only to prevent the decimation of the contents of my biscuit tin).

::

 Now, the points as scored by this handful of colourful Blogorati - and their identities.  In reverse order:

Pale Purple Peenee scored 2 points
The Very Red Mistress scored 8 ½ points
Mago a l'Orange scored 11 points
Which means the winner - just - with 11 & two halfs is:
the Aqua(tic) Ms Scarlet!!!

Jolly well done, Ms Scarlet!

 Your prize is to host the next Did I Win Yet? Award/Quiz/Competition/Event thingy as and when you see fit.  But preferably before the year's end.
 I know... Why not combine it with that other competition that you need to air...?

 Thank you to everyone who entered, and to the rest of you who looked on in amusement/disdain/horror etc. etc...

* Jon claimed he knew the answers to four of these questions, but couldn't be arsed to look through the Coven Awards post to find out the rest.

  1. OH MY GOD!!!! I really wasn't expecting this!!!!
    I even had to look up the answer to my own Mogwash inspired question!!! WOW!! I am a bit chuffed, and very glad that I entered.

    2. Congratulations, Miss Scarlet!

      I'm pleased that we all left Peenee in the dirt although I must say he was good for a chortle or two.

    3. "that horrid Norma tramp" and "Speaking of tramps..." are particular Peenee favourites, but "Lots and lots. Tremendously lots" takes the cake!

  2. Miss Scarlet - aren't you going to make a speech, dedicating the prize to your manager, your postman, Sydney, Mrs Miggins at the pie shop, Charmaine, and Macallan's Ten-Year-Old Scotch..? Jx

    2. Jon, you forgot to mention the tiny teddy bear and Devon's mud!

      And, Ms Scarlet? I can barely wait to see what you come up with!

  3. Mago deserves something for, "I found no canned man. I know Canned Heat, canned meat, and avoided the can too., But I'm sorry, no can man."

    This would be clever coming from anyone but keep in mind that English is not his first language. I am humbled by his wordplay.

    1. Oh my loverly, dearest Mistress - don't encourage my crimes against the beautiful English language, plz ! I'm just a conman, a tragic spelling error ...

    2. Mago, your "crimes" against our language pale to insignificance compared to the atrocities that some native speakers commit!

  4. "The Mistress's Annual Lady Garden Presentation?"

    I'll need to have the hedges trimmed before we discuss this further.

  7. Oh dear! Since I am mostly responsible for this, I should, at the very least, have played along.
    I've been somewhat preoccupied with bushfires ...
    I'm a very long way from the inferno down south, but several friends are directly affected.
    For the record, I would have known the C and H question. But you know that, didn't you IDV! xx

    1. I did know that, Ms Mow! I would have expected you to score at least 10 or 11 points had you not been so preoccupied.

      P.S. I hope your friends are OK?

  8. Congratulations to the lovely MsScarlet ! Well deserved.

    1. What an offer, Mago! When on the continent, I shall have a bag of oranges on my person at all times, just in case. And I'll try not to hit your cake-carrying arm. No ducking out of the way!

    1. Ready yourself, Savvy. There may be two or three more contests this year - at least one tin-foil type compo from me, and I expect Ms Scarlet will be doing another "Did I Win Yet?" affair, as well as something with well travelled green velour...

    2. Are you busy working on the questions, or something? You've been awfully quiet lately... Jx

    3. Here I am! I would like to say that I've been extremely busy with Blog-related nincompoopery, but that would be a lie. I've got nothing to show for my abscence. Yet...

    Why would you fancy someone called Ajax?

    1. Hound, you spent so much time on your hat that you missed the contest (have you been conferring with Savvy?). However, keep the hat - it may come in usefuly later in theyear...

      And Ajax reminds me of clean floors and laundry - why wouldn't I fancy him?

  12. Appalling. I have a fabulous new post up and you have shunned it. Granted it isn't quiz or shorts related, but it is new, and features the word 'Pillock'. Are you hibernating/lost on the strand/baking cakes/logged out and enjoying life/ or having a merry time with the postman? Please delete as applicable.
    We hope to see you soon, Mr Devine.

    1. Oof! Sorry. Here I am! Just like Sid, it was the word "Pillock" that got my attention.

      Unfortunately, merry times with the Postman were not the reason for my absence. Instead, I have been preoccupied (and co-opted when not otherwise occupied) with other things, but I shall make a triumphant (I hope) return soon.
      Once I have something to show, that is...

      Anyway, I'd better go and see what all this pillockery is about!
