Underground Owl

A lot less creepy/trippy than Hound's owls
(9th pic down)
I had reason to traverse the underpass from St. Stephen's Street to Queens Road (in Norwich) yesterday morning, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that not only did it not smell of wee, but that it had been transformed into an art gallery of sorts.
Immediately recalling Hound's recent Free Art Gallery posts, I made an effort to really look at what I was hastily walking past. It wasn't until I got almost to the steps ascending to Queens Road that this rather adorable owl caught my eye:

If I was more awake (and could be bothered to go back), I'd've taken some more photos of other pieces, but I wasn't (and I couldn't), so you'll have to take a look at this Instagram page to see some of the rest.

  2. Maybe our own Roses could have something on display there some day?

  3. You could use Beaky as your muse.

    1. Like he'd sit still long enough to paint!

Or maybe I could just dip him in a can of paint and use him as a brush?!?

  4. Oh I do like this gallery. It's nice to know that should I ever visit Norwich again there is somewhere I'll feel at home. It's interesting in the spirit of place that this gallery is less, well, ghetto than in Digbeth or the graff in Hockley which I couldn't photograph because the lights were out in the underpasses.
Pity about the smell of wee...it took Inexplicable and I hours of popping in and out of the Champion to get it just right. And just as I was thinking of entering it for the Turner Prize as an olfactory installation.

    1. There probably are more ghetto places in Norwich, but I have no clue where they'd be, never mind actually visiting one! Or maybe there aren't? Although, I don't think Norwich is that posh yet...

As for the wee - or lack thereof - it is somewhat inexplicable considering the wide variety of drinks we imbibed...

  5. Wow! What a fantastic and spectacular owl! That is one very nice and chic underpass! So artsy! What a dynamic and creative space!

Unfortunately, the last underpass I crossed under was full of trash--garbage and passed out junkies--definitely NOT a place I would cross again. That place could certainly use some art and clean up to brighten up the space.

    1. I recall that there used to be tramps (bums, not slutty hos) down there years ago, but they've obviously been moved on to less salubrious areas now.

  6. We have hos (?hoes) here but they wander around Edgbaston. The city centre is reserved for the just plain homeless.
I thought the mixture of drinks explained the smell. Next time I'll stick to sherry.
