Weekend Walkies II (sort of)

I really wanted to get down on the beach and take some photos for a Weekend Walkies post, but I seem to have attracted a cold and the weather isn't conducive to either photography or mild illnesses, so it's best that I stay indoors in the warm*.

Oof!
A landing after a spot of time-travel isn't always happy.
However, I haven't let a little thing like the weather stop me. Oh, no. By undertaking a little bit of judicious time-travel, I am able to present a batch of photos for a Weekend Walkies post that were actually taken on Thursday!

You see, Thursday was bright and sunny with no wind, so it was ideal for wandering about, aimlessly or otherwise. And, as I'd gone to see Deadpool at the Regal Movieplex cinema in Cromer on Thursday afternoon, I could safely time-travel back to have a walk then without any awkward encounters with my past self.
As the above photo shows, my landing wasn't exactly ideal. After I'd picked myself up, I set off on my walk...

Cromer town and pier

Cromer beach heading east towards Overstrand
Top left: Supermarket trolleys (or bits of them, anyway) end up everywhere, don't they? Bottom: Crab/lobster pots

The wreck (partial) of the Swedish cargo ship, SS Fernebo (from 9 January 1917). The stricken ship was attended by Cromer lifeboat RNLB Louisa Heartwell under coxwain Henry Blogg

The weathered spine of some hideous old sea monster. Or something...

Close-up of groynes (hee hee!)
Has a giant been walking here?

Or a giant's pet seagull dinosaur, perhaps?
It almost looks like summer, doesn't it? Well, except for the complete lack of tourists!

That's it for now. See you all out there.

* I say "warm", but Inexcuseable doesn't like the thermostat to go above 16°...

  1. It does look like summer! Very nice picture as always. You should dig up that old sea monster. What if it is. You'll be on National Geographic covers everywhere.

    1. I threaten mine with the bonfire when it starts getting uppity. Or just leave a vacuum cleaner catalogue lying around conspicuously...

    1. Ha! Luckily, no, so I was able to straddle and get on as many groynes as I liked!

  5. Off topic but have you ever posted about the "green men" of Norwich Cathedral? I find them interesting but I can't remember if you've covered these previously.

    1. I haven't but, funnily enough, Svaathor mentioned the Green Man the other day, so I said next time I pass near the Cathedral, I'll pop in to get a photo or two. Needless to say, I'll post them here for you, too.

    2. YAY!

From my understanding, Norwich Cathedral has over 1,000 roof bosses so pack a lunch!

    3. I may have to get a new camera, too, as my phone one doesn't have a zoom function and those bosses are very high up. I don't think the clergy will take too kindly to me flying Broom up there...

  6. Awesome fotos! Despite the rough landing, the pictures from the time travel look great. I myself experienced a bit of time travel today, when checking for time on the tv, it looked like I had lost an hour. A quick internet search & I realized that it was Daylight Savings Time once more & it was time to spring the clocks one hour forward. Good thing I didn't have any plans for today, or I'd've been behind a whole hour. Were there any crabs in the crab pots or did whoever made off with the rest of the shopping cart take the catch, too?

The beaches & sands look spectacular! Very clean & natural. And the groynes look fascinating. You were very wise to leave the old monster spine undisturbed. Lots of people make the mistake of digging up old monsters, but they fail to understand that sea monsters, especially the Old Ones, aren't really dead, but sleeping. And the footprints you found of their servants/minions are evidence the Old Ones still live. Wake them up at your peril & it's the apocalypse once more. Nobody wants to see Cthulhu on a rampage. The only time I want to see a big octopus/squid in front of me is if it's been turned into calamari or grilled.

    1. Ah, you're catching up to us, then. We don't put our clocks forward for another week or two.

Excellent points about the Sea Monsterpocalypse. The SyFy channel keep poking around hoping for inspiration for the next Sharktopus movie, but so far, the locals have managed to see them off.

  7. There must have been a charabanc trip of commoners from some urban centre who left that shopping trolley behind. Shocking

    1. I know. Ghastly, indeed! We've managed to rid Cromer of their stench now - Just in time for the influx of Easter tourists.

  8. Off topic again but still in Norwich, how do you feel about having a statue of witch-hater Sir Thomas Browne in your county?

Do you spit on him each time you pass by?

    1. Oh, please. That silly old goat was practically a witch himself! If he'd have been female he'd've been burned at the stake long before he got his knighthood.

I do sometimes roll my eyes when I walk past, however.

  9. Your Groyne looks fossilized from that angle...
It's a wonder that the locals haven't used some ingenuity and turned the shopping trollys into crab/lobster pots...
A nice stroll though... and you're photography gives me a sense of having been there with you...
