Bridge Over the River Mun (or: "Show Us Yer Mossy Stump!")

Oof!  Sorry I haven't been around much lately.  It's been "all go" around here what with one thing and another.  Having said that, I haven't really got much to say or show for my efforts, so I'm just popping in to say hello and dump off a load of photos from Frogshall earlier in the month:

The rebuilt Jubilee Bridge at Frogshall from 1st August (below the 5 and just to the right of "Pp Ho" on this map from the previous linked to post)

Peering down to the dizzying depths from the west side of the bridge...

... and the rather overgrown east side

From 7th August, this is the view west from the road bridge at 11 on the previously linked to map

As I hadn't ventured into Gay's Plantation before, I decided to plunge through the undergrowth to have a look.  This is the aforementioned road bridge

The clear waters are home to small fish, water snails and these water crickets which skate around on the surface

Further into Gay's Plantation are several mossy stumps, including this one which looks like it could have been constructed for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (which I have just re-watched)

Mossy stump #2

Mossy stump #3

I found a fallen tree across the river and couldn't resist straddling it.  This is the view back west...

... and this is the view east

This is as far east as I could go as the undergrowth was getting dangerously out of control

I haven't got another 'Week of Mornings' set of photos, you may be pleased to hear.  Mostly because on Monday I ventured in to work for the first time in nearly 18 months (what a strange experience that was), so I wasn't getting up even earlier to get down to the beach before having to persuade Car to propel me to Norwich.  And many of the other mornings were replete with rain, so they were a "no go" too.  So, here are just three of this week's mornings:

A Good Morning Groyne from 19th August

A Drama Queen moment from Friday 20th

And this morning's miserable affair.  (It rained not long after this was taken.  A lot)

Finally, here's a little snippet of this month's Star Trek Art Challenge piece that I'm working on.  If any of you can recognise anyone/thing (despite my appalling likenesses), please sound off in the comments.

  1. Thought you'd been quiet - ogling one too many stumps in the Gay cruising ground, sorry, plantation!

I've been back in the office a few days a week, and it is very strange - spookily quiet, indeed - but at least there's something resembling human interaction, which is a zillion times better than MS Teams.

    1. It's amazing how quickly one can get carried away in Gay's!

Yes, the office was very quiet, so much so that I felt like I was doing overtime at the weekend. I also forgot Teams was even a thing - not for long, mind, as someone reminded me that we had a meeting with some of those who were still at home. Ah, well...

  2. Life is more bearable with a mossy stump and a drama queen.
Are you pleased to be back in the office? I've noticed my early morning social life returning to normal as people return to their old routines - I'll miss them, even though I was horrified when I originally encountered them.

    1. I have a few more Drama Queen moments from this week, but no more mossy stumps, unfortunately.

I was only in the office for one day - I'm going to carry on working from home to save on all the travel, although I'll go in now and again for training or just to see people.

  3. No wonder you've been quiet after 'straddling' that log. There is something unreal again about these pictures. The road bridge doesn't seem to have a road approaching it! Are you sure you haven't stumbled on the setting for a film by the Children's Film Foundation?

    1. Well, it's not really a road bridge, it's more of a tunnel under the road... Sorry.

I'd never heard of the CFF. I must have seen some of their films, but have no recollection of them now?

  4. This reminds me of the bog in Golden Valley. It's a major cruising area... and in summer, looks very similar to this. It's also surrounded by woods and, unfortunately, mountain biking trails. Thanks for the lovely photos. I love green spaces. Kizzes.

  5. That fallen tree isn't the only thing that you couldn't resist straddling.

    1. Well, I have to keep limber as one never knows when opportunity will present itself.

  6. Ooh! Mossy stumps and clear water. (I'd have had a post-straddle paddle.)

    1. A paddle! Now, why didn't I think of that? Maybe next time...?

  7. There is something UrRuvian about your mossy stump and the thatch on stump 3 seems particularly frizzy, and what Jon said about gay cruising ground.

  8. How is it we have so much in common? Fellow log straddler and mossy stump appreciater! I really like the way you caught the action of the wave in the Aug 19th beach picture. I also like your Star Trek art. Is it a book mark? Is that why it is so narrow? I always wanted to be Deanna Troy. I think I've done fairly well on that account despite not having a Counseling degree. I see her on the right behind the redhead. Jordy seems like a nice guy. I could see being friends or at least amiable coworkers with a guy like that.

I hope you head over to Nature-Led.org and see the Flogging Molly video I posted today. I think you would like it.

    1. Oh, I didn't half do some dithering over that 19th August photo! There's a very similar one with a better sky, but no wave, and I hummed and hahed for an AGE trying to decide which to post. Clearly, the wave won.

Ah, yes! That's Deanna there and the red-head is her mum, Lwaxana (with her valet, Mr Homn looming over them) - I love them! (my favourite TNG characters).
The image is so narrow as it's only a snippet. I'm saving the whole thing for the end-of-the month (or beginning of the next month) Art Trek post.

I haven't visited other blogs in a few days which is something I'm going to rectify this weekend. See you soon!

  9. [unrelated, sorry]

Sorry IDV, I have no clue whether I alraedy have sent this link to you here. It's from last year, I am just cleaning out the bookmarks ...

    1. Oh! A tiny little Voyager! No, I haven't seen this before (or if I have, I'd forgotten). And it's a remarkably good likeness - totally recognisable for something so tiny. Thank you, Mago!
