Land of the Giants

 Oh, no.  Not again...

Unlike at the Very Mistress's,
clicking here debigulates...

Walking through the exposed chalk rafts on Overstrand Beach, we must have inadvertently trod on - and activated - the lock for the Lilliputian Cusp interface.
Finding ourselves at a less than ideal stature (if one can call being reduced to only three centimetres tall "stature"), we had little choice but to try and make it to the End-of-the-Line where we should revert to our far more usual height...

Surveying our surroundings...

... we looked for the way out.

Clambering to the precipice of an impressive chalk formation...

...the beginnings of a river became evident.

Finding a piece of driftwood...

... we navigated its serpentine length....

... through canyons...

... and crevices...

... until...

... it opened out...

... into a wide, swift flowing expanse...

... which we inexpertly sailed upstream.

At last!  The End-of-the-Line is in sight!

Alighting on the river bank...

... we walked around the bend to where the towering cliffs gave way to a gentle slope...

...and made it out!  Although, the sand still seems to be awfully close to eye-level...

  1. What a cool adventure and even better pictures. I have never seen anything like that are our beaches here.

    1. It was cool. Freezing, in fact! Brrrr....

The chalk beds here are part of what's believed to be the largest chalk reef in Europe. The chalk extends hundreds of metres out to sea, following the coast for many kilometres, and is home to many different species of marine wildlife.

  2. Spectacular! That is the grandest tiny canyon system in the world! The rocks look fascinating and the water is very clean. What a pristine and splendid natural environment! I luv the close ups of the terrain and waters. Very nicely done.

It's a good thing the weather was nice enough to Tom Sawyer our way on the river using a raft. Any rougher weather and we'd've needed an ark to get through. Thank goodness there were no birds around who could've mistaken our tiny selves for delicious grubs.

  3. Ok I just have to lower the tone. When you go small, what happens to, you know, that?
Does it shrink in proportion or does it trail behind you?

    1. Well, both times this has happened, it has shrunk in proportion with me. But I put that down to the fact that I wrapped it around myself to keep warm so it was caught within the shrinking sphere of influence. It's quite thick, and can cover a substantial area, so it's ideal for these type of excursions into almost freezing conditions. Yes, I highly recommend a flight cloak when traversing the beach in winter.

      What?

    2. That's a relief, I thought you'd taken your sousaphone to the beach, and salt water in the works can't do it any good at all.
Blogger's being really helpful at the moment, isn't it?

    3. My sousaphone? Definitely not. My Helicon, on the other hand...

    1. You are not spam, dear Mago. However, I do not know where your previous comment may have ended up? It is not showing up in either comment folder. Perhaps it has shrunk to a size undetectable by the human eye?

  5. An amusing tale. (Although...some of those chalky canyons reminded me of some dental patients of long ago!)

  6. A word of caution. Best not to do the 3 cm thing when the cats are around!

  8. I was wondering how all of your comments were dated the 2nd of various months that hadn't happened yet and was wondering about time travel when I finally recalled the difference between English and American forms of listing the date. I felt so very clumsily American. I think the difference is actually a plot point in some Agatha Christie work.

    1. I'm glad it was only the English-American Divide, and not actual time travel that caught you unawares. I don't think I could cope with being tiny *and* travelling through time. Especially if caught up in an Agatha Christie murder-mystery, too!
And, if it makes you feel any better, I get very confused when reading dates in the American format.
