Not The Usual Suspects: White Horses Edition

While I was sorting out the Moon photos for the previous post, I came across some photos I'd taken last month and neglected to do anything with. So, to remedy that, here's another post consisting of birds (à la Mistress Maddie's Usual Suspects posts), and white horses.

First up, a promenade perambulation on 19th November provided waders and white horses:

A foraging Turnstone (Arenaria interpres)

"Anything good to eat over there, Mabel?"

"Yikes! Watch out for that wave!"

Leaving the Turnstones behind, I headed off east along the prom

Rough seas ahead: The white horses are charging in to shore

"Neigh!"

Rather than walk up the slope, when I reached the end of the prom, I had Broom carry me up.
Here's a Broom's-eye-view of the End of the Line...

... and back towards Overstrand village.

Some of the Usual Suspects having lunch when we arrived back at Château DeVice

A Great Tit enjoying some sunflower hearts

A House Sparrow with a beak full of suet

Gah!  Beaky!!

These next photos were taken on the 25th.  Just more from the End of the Line.

That's it, for now.  I've got to go and look after The Little Witch and Babyzooky while Indescribable and Inexcuseable's husband empty the contents of her caravan into their winter home.  Until next time!

  1. At first I read that as Great Tits. I thought is Mj at Castle DeVice? I love the tit, so pretty, different colors than ours. My suspects are going crazy right now with feed...for it's currently snowing...the diner is hopping....

    1. Why, thank you Mistress Maddie. (I think.)

  2. That Great Tit is beautiful. If it's a "Great" Tit, is there a "Lesser" Tit?

Beaky completely took me by surprise. It looks like he's seeking camouflage in an attempt to ambush you.

    1. All other tits are lesser compared to the Great Tit. After all, it is Great Britain's biggest tit (not counting Boris Johnson).

    2. I meant to say: Beaky often conceals himself somewhere around the house, then launches himself at me (and anyone else nearby) hurling a string of high-pitched, shrill abuse!

  3. Great Tit! Two would have been better! [rimshot]

    1. Now I can't help but think of The Very Mistress's recent "drumstick" post...

  4. So those are white horses. Actually I'm rather scared of them, just as I am of the other sort of horse.

    1. Pesky old Nature, eh? Perhaps you'd better stick to your canals and concrete?

    1. You've accidently duplicated yourself, dear. Been practising a bit of mirror magic, have we?

    1. Ooh! Is it a post-washing up photo? Or maybe a shot of your fridge? No. No. A couple of empty cellophane wrappers?!?

  7. What dynamic action shots of those wild, rushing waves! Stunning! They do look like galloping horses. The vista from the top overlooking the sea is spectacular! And those waders look fantastic hunting in the rough waters. I can almost see and hear them moving about the untamed land and sea, seeking out food.

It's always nice to see a beautiful Great Tit or two. Their colors are dazzling! The garden shots are great close-ups. Even Beaky looks splendid as he melds in the garden landscape.

Nature shots are great, and they're even more grand when they were taken during risky ventures, like rough weather and hazardous locations. Thanks for sharing these fabulous fotos with us.

    1. I was lucky with the turnstones - I don't often see them on Overstrand beach, as they seem to prefer Cromer Pier (probably because of the errant chips and crumbs that tourists and visitors lose).
The waves, too. I've tried taking these sort of photos before, and they come out looking like bathtub ripples, but these ones are pretty OK (not quite Blue Planet II, though).

  8. What if a Great Tit had a less than stellar personality?

    Would it be a "Not-So-Great-Tit?"

    1. A blue tit perhaps ?

I at least can confirm that Canadian tits are great.

    2. Perhaps a "boring tit", The Very Mistress? Or, an "annoying tit"? Or, "whatta tit"?

      A "great" example, Mago!

  9. I don't like Great tits, blue or otherwise after watching this

I saw a robin the other day feasting on a cow pat in Beverley Westwood, it looked very festive with a light frost I would have liked to have seen it depicted on a Christmas card.

    1. Oog. Yes. I saw that video and was horrified! I try and keep all the bird feeders well stocked up now, as I don't want a zombie-a-like bloodbath on my doorstep.

It sounds like you're on to something, Mitzi: "Shit" Christmas cards! Put me down for a pack.
