RNLB Lester

So. Here it is. The third and final set of photos from Sunday's daydrift along the coast from Cromer to West Runton. The subject is the RNLI Cromer Lifeboat RNLB Lester (RNLI 16-07).

This was taken from East Runton. I turned around to look back at Cromer and saw a boat near the pier

I didn't realise until later that it was the Cromer Lifeboat Lester

After I'd taken all those photos of the stripey cliffs at West Runton, I turned back for home and noticed the Lester offshore

I was almost back to Cromer beach when I saw the lifeboat also heading home

Here begin the docking maneouvres that see the Lester safely ensconced in its berth in the lifeboat station at the end of Cromer Pier

Back in Cromer having watched the lifeboat come in - you can see the prow peeking out of the end of the pier.

Here are some photos I took back in December of the Lester in the lifeboat station:

And, especially for Princess, may I present the RNLI's wardrobe:

The sleek and streamlined uniforms of the RNLI. Well, one of them is, anyway (I went to college with the sleek one - Yum (then and now)!)

  1. The RNLB Lester looks sleek and spectacular up close! Great shots!

    Three questions:

    1. Why does the summer uniform of the lifeguard look like winter wear? With the beanie and jacket?

    2. Is the beach a nude beach? Is that why the lifeguard is wearing shades? So he can scan the nekkid people for contraband?

    3. Do the East Coast RNLI lifeguards run in slow motion like the Baywatch lifeguards?

    1. 1. Because summer lasts for exactly one day here in Britain. And sometimes that day doesn't even occur in the current year!

      2. Kind of. British flesh is very pasty, as a rule. Shades are worn to dim the glare off alabaster skin.

      3. No. They'd freeze to death if they didn't move quickly.

  2. Excellent sequence of the lifeboat! That's really cool how they keep the boat sheltered in the boat house but ready for immediate deployment. Thank you.

Some who was in the Coast Guard said their informal motto was, "you have to go out, but you don't have to come back." Salute to the brave crews who keep us safe.

    1. I was lucky to be there when the lifeboat was returning home - It's a good job I had Camera and not the puny Phone, otherwise you'd've been looking at dots on the horizon. If that.

Both the Coast Guard and the RNLI both do a sterling job. I don't think they get enough recognition. A salute, indeed!

    2. That said, we did have a joke in the Navy: You have to be 5ft 7in tall to join the Coast Guard. That's in case the boat sinks, you can wade back in. [rim shot]

    1. Who knew that under the baggy old clothes we wore in college such a bulge lurked...

He also had awesome hair! He was so cool - I had a bit of a crush, if you couldn't tell.

  6. Ooh you lucky witch, you, going to school with the sleek one.
Otherwise one is of course reminded of how really comfy the deckchairs were on the deck of the Titanic. Personally I thought those on the Lusitania showed a marked deterioration in luxury.

  7. And they let you go up to the clubhouse? You lucky duck!

I have a young student living next door for a few months and his summer job is life-guard at various beaches around town.Which, by the way, are closed because of jellyfish!
