Sunday Stroll II: Wildflowers of May

As I'm very tired (had a late night last night - up until midnight, then rudely awakened at 5am by a very loud pheasant!), this won't be a very wordy post. Instead, there's loads of photos of the wildflowers I passed on my rather circuitous walk to The Mother's allotment to pick rhubarb.
As you'll be able to see from the map at the end of this post, I walked along Smallhopes Hill down towards Northrepps, then up Toll's Hill to the allotments, and then back through Overstrand towards home along the old dismantled railway which skirts the base of Smallhopes Hill.

I'll finish labelling these photos with the names of the flowers another day, but for now, bed is calling.
Oh. As usual, clicking the photos will embigulate them.

Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) in the woods on Smallhopes Hill

Dandelion clock (Taraxacum officinale)

The seeds are better evident in this view from below

Dandelion flower

Cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris)

A variety of Cranesbill (Geranium somethingorother)

Ladybird resting on a nettle

White campion (Silene latifolia)

Common vetch (Vicia sativa), I believe...

Ribwort plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

Bird's-eye speedwell (Veronica chamaedrys), I think...

Buttercup (Ranunculus whatsisname)

Red campion (Silene dioica)

Wood forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica)

Primroses (Primula vulgaris) along the disused railway line

  1. Beautiful bloomers, Mr Devine. I went out today. I made a film, but it is not very good. I was going to slap it on the blog..... perhaps the photos will suffice?

    2. Ooh, yes! We all love a good film premiere. Will you roll out the red carpet, too?

      Please?! (thanks, Dinahmow)

  2. Wow great detail in your photos! I try to get close ups like that but sometimes they come out and other times not so good. I love picking wildflowers.

    1. Thank you. It can be very hit & miss - especially when there's even the slightest of breezes, then things get very blurry indeed!

  3. Wow! Awesome fotos! The first dandelion one looks like it's from some large ferns Jurassic forest. Exotic, haunting, & suspenseful in its composition. I almost expect to flee, screaming & scrambling, as if an allosaurus is stalking me from the dark shadows! It's the same reaction I have when someone invites me to a baby shower...or to watch those gawd awful Twilight movies.

The wildflowers are so colorful & spectacular! They definitely make the long walk a pleasant & enchanting experience. Even the ladybug looks beautiful! The path in the forest looks magical & stunning! These fotos are poster quality art! Thanks for sharing them. Any nuts growing on nut lane? Any bull sightings on bull row? Any potters on Kiln holes?

    1. I know I'd rather be eaten by an allosaurus than go to a baby shower or see Twilight et al!

It's so easy to miss these flowers (well, apart from the bluebells) as they're mostly tucked away in banks of grass, bracken and ground elder. As for nuts, bulls and pot - this is all sounding a little suspect, to me, so I'm going to veer off now...

    1. It's so much more spectacular in real life. Are the bluebells out in Franconia, yet?

  5. These walks-with-weeds are such a treat.
I'm now in Ohio, in a beautiful house surrounded by greenery.

  6. I love the word circuitous to describe your route!

    1. I thought it was reasonably apt, but I don't really like the word myself. The way my brain says it is different to how my mouth says it, and both are different to how it's spelt/properly pronounced!

  7. You were thinking 'circumcised', weren't you?

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
