Pens: The best friends you can have!

Following hot* on the heels of LX, Dinahmow and Ms Scarlet, I hereby bring you the Pen Meme. But first, an introduction from Pauline Campbell Jones:

Right. Now on to the main feature:

Beaky, trapped in paper-form, perching on a Mitsubishi uni-Ball eye (fine)
I've used various Mitsubishi uni-Ball eyes over the years, mostly the fine nibbed ones as pictured above. I can't remember how I got hooked on them, but I just love the way the ink effortlessly flows from the tiny ballpoint.
The propelling pencil came free with a sudoku puzzle book. I find it invaluable for jotting things down in my notebook while taking a bath as it still writes if I hold it horizontally or upside-down. And it still works if I drop it in the water! As I haven't got time to explain properly, let me direct you back in time to this post.
The uni-Pin Fine Line 0.3 was from a set of three (the others being a 0.5 and 0.8 nib), and I use it occasionally when I can't lay my hands on a uni-Ball. I've worn the nib down to a sort of chisel-tip now, though...

As for what I write in/on, as you can see, I mainly use supermarket-bought (i.e. Sainsbury's) A6 ringbound notepads as they're quite portable. Although, as you can see in the next picture, I do sometimes stretch to A4 pads! All these appear to have been written in using a biro, but I can't be bothered to take more photos and upload them to show the uni-Ball ink writings, so you'll just have to make do.

Just a selection of notebooks from days of blogging past

Now, before you go, make sure you return any pens you may have inadvertantly appropriated, or I'll have to set Pauline on you!

* OK, so it's more like luke-warm...

  1. Oh, excellent! Nice choice of pens and beautifully creative notebooks.

If I tried to write in the bath, something unfortunate would happen.

    1. Yikes! Looks like you'd better check that your bath salts are indeed bath salts, as it looks like that Charlotte Corday is still on the prowl.

  2. My "notebooks" are usually old pocket diaries. They start out neat enough, with my airport/train times clearly written...but invariably end up with sketches of impromptu pub performers, odd sights, shopping notes. And phone numbers,Dear god! I must have written down everyone's number...

    1. I know what you mean, Dinahmow! (and thanks for dropping by) It's so easy to get carried away and forget the original orderliness. Scrawling up the margin and in between binder rings has become something of an art form.

  3. I also have that Uni-pin set.... and we write the letter 'd' in a similar way, i.e. bent over!
I am enchanted by your notebooks with writing and illustrations... what is this I read about media whores?? And something about ensnaring Tim in 12 easy moves. I will power up my forensic computer tomorrow to take a better look.

    1. Our 'd's are, even though bent over, efficient - What do we need with a final downstroke?

As for the media whoring, I meant to link to it in the post, but obviously forgot. I'll let you run your forensic scans first before providing a link. For now, though, I'll just say that the post those notes illustrate is from 2008...

    2. So were mine, or 2009. I found that old notebook a couple of weeks ago and kept it out to see if there was anything in it that I could salvage. Well, it did come in handy after all.

    3. Hooray for old notebooks! I found a couple of old ideas that might be ripe for salvage, too!

    1. Oh, gods! Am I going to have to emigrate?

    2. Yes. Quickly. Don't look back. And don't start packing or you'll never go.

  5. Bath time is brief round here, no time for lollygagging or sketching.

I'm use moleskine for my journaling and notes and I use black hardbacked, ringbound sketchbooks for my creative stuff. I like the thick pages to stick things in.

I am so anal about my creative stuff, I think it's bordering on OCD.

No, you can't borrow my Pilot v5 pen; of course you can rip a page out of my notebook - just as soon as I rip your eyebrows off.

    1. Dammit! And I'm rather fond of my eyebrows, too.

  7. I like to read in the bath, but not to write.

    1. I always have paper and pen/pencil to hand when bathing as one never knows when inspiration will strike. Or when one will remember something previously forgotten!

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
