In my less than triumphant return to blogging last Saturday (after three weeks off), I mentioned that I'd been in hibernation mode, i.e. eating lots of chocolate while slumped in front of the telly. However, I also slouched before YouTube and lolled about in bed reading.
And here are some of the things I watched, read and listened to:
Played
"Immortal Love" - MIKA
Over and over and over again. Thank you, Jon!
"The Moon's A Window To Heaven" (Album Version) - Hiroshima
Because I rewatched Star Trek V: The Final Frontier after several years - It wasn't as bad as I thought (or as some on the internet would have you believe). It's not a patch on III and IV, but easily bests VI.
"I Had This Thing" - Röyksopp
I have been listening to a lot of Röyksopp in Car II on my way to work.
"Cold Sweat, Hot Boys!" - Bright Light Bright Light & Ana Matronic
I found this one just now!
Watched
Taskmaster (seasons 15-17) - never less than extremely funny and very entertaining!
Solar Opposites
I started watching this as it was co-created by Mike McMahan who created my very favouritest Star Trek series: Lower Decks. I've only watched a few episodes of season one as I'm not sure what to make of it - I don't even know if I like it or not. It's bizarre, but I'll keep at it for a bit longer.
The Great Flood
I just fancied watching a disaster movie and I found this Korean film on Netflix so settled down to watch it. It didn't turn out as I expected (I hadn't seen the trailer - which doesn't give too much away, fortunately).
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire - This was terrible! Not even Paul Rudd could save it. I did like the stop-motion style of the freeze everything ghost, though.
Rewatched
Star Trek: Enterprise (various episodes) - I was cramming them in as they disappeared from Netflix on 8th January and I don't have Enterprise on disc. I only watched my favourites such as "Broken Bow", "Acquisition", "Carbon Creek", Dead Stop", "A Night In Sickbay", "Vox Sola" and "Precious Cargo" (which is almost universally maligned by Trek fandom but I love it! "Precious Cargo" is probably my most watched episode of any Star Trek series.)
Fleabag (both series)
Ghosts (first series)
Bumblebee - As Transformers films go, this one is very good.
Thor: The Dark World
This Thor film seems to get slated quite often, but I really like it.
The Umbrella Academy (first season) - I might have welled up again during Diego's scenes with his robo-Mum.
Read
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock: The Making of the Classic Film, by John Tenuto and Maria Jose Tenuto
IDW's Star Trek: Lower Decks 2023 comic omnibus, by Ryan North and Chris Fenoglio and the 2025 comic omnibus, Second Contact by Ryan North, Derek Charm, and Jack Lawrence
And that's it! Now, I'm off to see whats for tea.

Mika is lovely, isn't he? As is Chris Hemsworth, of course! [Although, surprisingly, I've never seen Thor: Dark World. I loved Ragnarok, but I thought most of Love and Thunder was a bit crap (apart from Thor's bum, of course!)] I do like Royksopp, but I'm not sure I'd be listening to a song that "describes 'confusion, pain and remorse in the wake of loss'” while driving my car, or at any time, tbh...
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest? {{shrugs shoulders}} Each to their own... Jx
Mika is lovely, yes. Especially when he gives those little glances to the camera!
DeleteI do recommend Thor: Dark World - it has some fun and funny bits, but also some very moving bits, too (I like it more than Ragnarok and L&T). Rene Russo as Frigga is awesome, and good chunks of the film are set in London, particularly Greenwich. Perhaps next time you go to John-John's you can request it?
Well, you've done a lot more than me!! However, after The Traitors finished I began watching Taskmaster again from series 4 - I'm on series 7 now. I'd forgotten so much from the early episodes. From Christmas Day I rewatched every episode of Ghosts, and thought of you because I know you like it too.
ReplyDeleteMy reading and listening has been forgettable!! So maybe I'll take on some of your vibes.
Sx
P.S I loved Fleabag so much that I don't think I can watch it again because I cried so much at the end.
DeleteSx
I never got into The Traitors, but it was you who got me into Fleabag, as I recall. I love her! But, yes, a heartbreaking ending - although Fleabag telling the fox "he went that way" took the edge off a bit.
DeleteI envy your dedication, sweetpea! I've been so insanely tired that I haven't been able to focus on tv or books! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh, it's not dedication, dear Savvy. It's laziness! (and some tiredness.)
DeleteOn the days that I go into the office, I get home so late that by the time I've had something to eat and taken Bitey out, all I can do is slump in front of the telly (and then read a few pages once I'm in bed before falling asleep).
How have you not watched Arcane League of Legends yet?!?! Has it not come on Netflix in the UK yet? We ended up not finish the Umbrella Academy series, but I do know the episode you're talking about and that was a good one! There, there. There, there.
ReplyDeleteYep, Arcane is on Netflix here and it is on my radar, but I just haven't found the time for anything new around all the comfort viewing (I've started a rewatch of Superstore!).
DeleteSaturday Superstore with Mike Read, Sarah Greene, Keith Chegwin and John Craven? Gosh. Jx
DeleteOh, now that's a blast from the past!
DeleteYou sneaky little bugger, Ne DeVice! I go away for a week, and come back to find you added another track to this post! I absolutely adore that new team-up between Bright Light, Bright Light and Ana Matronic!! [I'll definitely be stealing that for one of my future "Pick of the Pops" collections...] Jx
ReplyDelete"Cold Sweat, Hot Boys" was definitely there before you left, Jon. I admit, it wasn't when I first published the post, but I added it within a few minutes.
DeletePerhaps you saw the post immediately after I'd published it and before the edit? Or you scrolled too fast to get away from Star Trek and the miserable Röyksopp... x
I imagine I was in and out too quickly [fnaar, fnaar!]. Jx
Deletelate to the party again.
ReplyDeleteMika slumped over a desk what.s not to love.
Wow I love cold sweat and Fleabag looks interesting
but it's Mika hunched over a desk that does it for me.
Fleabag is VERY good. A very well done black comedy - I think you and Jon might like it.
DeleteI like Mika's furtive glances over the photocopier, myself ;)
