I half prepared this post as filler, thinking that I probably wouldn't publish anything until next weekend, but then I went and managed the previous Early Start post and never finished this one (which was inspired by some of the songs a work colleague plays first thing in the morning before the phone lines are switched on)!
Fortunately, no further musings from me are necessary - I can just let the music play:
Aqua: Turn Back Time
Sydney Youngblood: If Only I Could
Shakespears Sister: You're History
Propaganda: Duel
Bass-O-Matic: Fascinating Rhythm
ABBA: Cassandra
Erasure: Drama!
Now THAT's What I Call Music, vol 72!
ReplyDeleteI love 'em all... Jx
What number is NOW up to in this day and age? Is it even still a thing?
DeleteApparently, it's up to Volume 111... Jx
DeleteYikes! I think I started at Volume 13?
DeleteGreat tunes! But you didn't need to serenade me, you had me at the Gin Trap.
ReplyDeleteI needed something to drown out any suspicious sounds...
DeleteThe same Aqua that did I'm a Barbie Girl?? Why do I not remember Turn Back Time? I loved Sliding Doors!
ReplyDeleteI always thought Duel was by someone else entirely - crikey, this morning has been an education!!
Sx
Yes, the very same Aqua! I despise Barbie Girl, but love Turn Back Time (and may have atched Sliding Doors once, but can't really remember it).
DeleteOof! Lost a w...
DeleteI loved Aqua! This, however, is the only version of Barbie Girl worth a listen - about 1:09 into the video... Jx
DeleteI should have pointed out that I meant the third video on that blog post... Jx
DeleteVery disappointed that it isn't the Russian army version...
DeleteOh, I'd forgotten about 'Doctor Jones'!
DeleteI loved that song - almost as much as "Fuck off, Ken!" Jx
DeleteOne of the great charms of having escaped the shackles of employment is that I no longer have to tolerate co-workers' "taste" in music. Although I was recently trapped in an Uber being serenaded with Christian rock.
ReplyDeleteIf it happens again, tell the driver that in Numbers 5 God commands a woman who has got pregnant in an affair, to have the priest abort the foetus. You literally can't take me anywhere.
DeleteYou used an Uber, Peenee?! I thought you only went to Peets?
DeleteHound, you remind me of Calvin (as in "and Hobbes") when he was practising his sneer so as to become "an unbearable burden at any social occasion". Ooh! You should write a 'novelty' book full of Houndisms!
No, wait, you mean your colleague doesn't play music after the phones are on? That's lame. When I worked in the access centre we'd leave bhangra on in the background, deny anything was being played when Sebastian asked, and when he started banging his head, tell him he'd been in Birmingham too long if he'd started spontaneously hearing bhangra.
ReplyDeleteOh, there's plenty of music when the phones are on. It's just that we can't hear it because it's the hold music for all those poor sods trying desperately to get through!
DeleteI would like to point out that I do NOT answer a phone in a call centre. I just happen to work in close proximity to all the racket. Unfortunately.
A few of these are not available in the states. How exciting. Shakespeare Sister! Yes. And, of course, Erasure - me favorite musical grand mums. Aqua was an acquired taste... And that cut is from my favorite ABBA album. As ABBA is prone to sing... thank you for the music!
ReplyDelete'The Visitors' is my favourite ABBA album too! The title track is my absolute favourite, and 'Two For the Price of One' is most amusing.
DeleteI'm sorry not all these songs/videos are available to you - I hope that you can find the one's you like/are curious about, Mr Tonking.
