Cloudy With a Chance of Mud Pies

What with it being a remarkably nice day today, I decided to go out for a longer walk than usual (especially as the forecast for the coming week is cold and icy).  This walk turned out to be a LOT longer than I expected as I had to forgo many footpaths and cut-throughs because of all the mud (more of that coming up) and take the long way around (i.e. the road).
I began by walking up Madam's Lane and cutting across to the old reservoir next to the radar station where I disturbed this heron:

From there, I walked across to Hungry Hill and followed the road around to Little Broad.  I had to go the road way as the short-cut track down by the Screaming Pits and Fox Hills (below) was just a sea of mud.

Near Little Broad I stopped at the bridge over the River Mun to look at the snowdrops.

As the path leading from Little Broad to Frogshall was a swamp, I remained on the road all the way into Southrepps and then on to Frogshall.  That's when the clouds started to gather.

Oh, here's a little something for Ms Scarlet
(it probably doesn't count though, as it's in a field)

The moon rising over the trees.  Wait a minute...
The Boob of Beacon Hill?  Rover from The Prisoner?
Oh, it's only the Trimingham Golf Ball - AKA the radar dome at RAF Trimingham

Upstream at the River Mun in Frogshall

It doesn't come close to the magnificence of Devon Mud, but it is mud, nonetheless.

~o~

P.S. I went to the dentist's this morning for my yearly check-up and, "fortunately", the part of the filling in the tooth I thought I'd cracked back in July came out while I was in the chair (I bit down too hard on something the dentist had shoved in my mouth).  I've got another appointment in three weeks time to remove the temporary filling he put in today and replace it with something more permanent.  Oh, joy.

  1. Madame Lane? Hungary Pit? Screaming Hills? Was this a walk in nature or a fricking porn set? I've had many fillings from biting down on hard objects....

I can't believe you already have snow drops coming up..we have at least two months here till they even break the ground.

    1. Well, if I walked the other way, I might have a got a hole-in-one on Dick's Close Hill! Although, if one goes too far, there's always the chance of falling into the Long Ho's Happy Valley...

  2. That is an impressive amount of mud! Glad you had a nice day for traversing it - here, it has been pissing down all day, again. So much for holidays. Jx

PS everyone's blogging about dentistry at the moment!

    1. Let's hope 2021 is the year we all get our dentistry woes sorted.
      And some sunshine.
      And vaccines.

  3. And what shoes were you wearing? I'm guessing NOT industrial strength wellies that will whizz you through any terrain.
It's a good job that you have a canal boat to navigate the puddles, and a handy astronaut to explain the radar dome.
Excellent news about your tooth! [I am still suffering jaw issues]

Oh, I can see my sideboard again! The astronaut must have sailed the boat off into another dimension?

Fear not, Ms Scarlet - I have declared 2021 the Year of Done Dentistry! I'm sure your jaw issues shall evaporate very soon.

  8. England is not so different from the Pacific Norwest in terms of weather. I actually told my Mother-in-Law I couldn't speak to her today because the sun was out. I refrained from calling her a sun whore, but she lives in Florida! They're so used to it, they forget how special it is for some of us to see the sun during the winter months. I like my MIL though, don't get me wrong. We have a lovely relationship and she understood that I needed to 'Carpe diem!' So we rescheduled for Tuesday.

    1. I'm sorry, I now can't help but imagine a heated arguement that climaxes with you (or someone else - this doesn't have to be you and your MIL) screaming "YOU SUN WHORE!" in the opposite party's face.

      Hee hee hee!

      Sorry.

  9. Ha,ha,ha I have the audacity to say a lot of things to people's faces! Most people find my directness "refreshing" but occasionally I'll get a sour lemon faced person.
