Overheard and Wonky Words

I think my old Back Passage has been on display for long enough, but as I don't have anything prepared to succeed it, I thought I'd share something overheard along with some wonky words.

First, the wonky words: The effervescent Ms Scarlet is hosting the "Did I Win Yet?" Award/Quiz/Competition/Event thingy after she won the said award back in January, here.  As well as a quiz bit - consisting of as many as two (!!) questions about our dear, departed blog friend LẌ - Ms Scarlet has come up with an inspired creative bit in which one must write out a favourite quote and photograph it on a chair!
After much roiling and churning of ideas in my overexcited mind, I have settled on a quote, and begun writing it out in an attempt to decide how best to display it.  Here is a little teaser of one of the ideas:

Now, on to the overheard.  As I walked down to the beach this morning (for a walk into Cromer), I passed a house undergoing some building work.  From the open front door came a trio of male voices ranging - in order of appearance - from exasperated, to fed up, and finally cheeky:

"Will you stop shouting the word F!"

 "Oh, Jesus Christ..."

 "Fuck off!"

My grin lasted all the way to the end of the road at the cliff top!

Finally, some of my favourite music from the past year along with their captivating videos:

The Irrepressibles with "LET GO (Everybody Move Your Body Listen to Your Heart) from March

Woodkid and "Run Boy Run".  I missed this the first time around in 2012, but loved it as part of the soundtrack to Netflix's The Umbrella Academy earlier this year.

Tegan and Sara's "I'm Not Your Hero".  Again another one I missed when it was first released - probably because I had never heard of Tegan and Sara until I saw this Murderbot Diaries Animatic in October.

Last, but not least, Duvchi with "Geronimo" featuring Nadia Nair which was released last month.

Bonus:  Marc Papeghin's French Horn & Trumpet Cover of James Horner's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Main Title, Battle In The Mutara Nebula, and Epilogue/End Title).

This is one of my very favourite orchestral soundtracks, pipped only by the same Mr Horner's Star Trek III: The Search For Spock music (especially Stealing the Enterprise).  I like Marc's video as it shows the score going by as he plays.  I hadn't realised how full of time changes this composition has - I was having difficulty keeping up (my days in a school orchestra were quite some time ago).  Exhilarating stuff!!

  1. Being on elder lockdown the only things I overhear are the drone of the TV or the MITM asking me the same question from different rooms in the house because he thinks I can't hear him! *Jesus wept* Love your musical choices, sweetpea!

    1. Is your MITM's question along the lines of "Where's the - ?", and he's going from room to room looking for it? However, instead of doing a proper look, he does a Man-Look™ - i.e. walking into the room not looking anywhere and expecting the item in question to just miraculously appear in front of his face (I admit to being guilty of employing the Man-Look™ on occasion...)?

  2. Alexa, tell a dirty joke

The quote is in the Lord of the Rings script thingy.

Nobody has complimented me on my hat and I'm seething.

    1. Are these things you've overheard recently? If so, I really like the hat one - you should write it out, pop it on a chair and enter Ms Scarlet's "Did I Win Yet? Award/Quiz/Competition/Eventy thingy".

  3. Nice hat, Hecate!
Blimey, the things I do to keep the peace.
Thank you for the shout out, Mr Devine! Am very much looking forward to receiving your entry - you may use the front door.

    1. Miss Scarlet, have you trimmed the unruly bush so that he may find a path to the front door?

    2. That's a very good point, Very Mistress!

However, I don't tend to use front doors unless I can possibly help it. Although, I could be persuaded if... Ms Scarlet? Does your front door have three young(ish), fit, sweary tradesmen banging around inside it?

    3. Thank you very much Ms Scarlet. Would you like me to hump your leg?

  4. Ms Mistress - It's Winter so the bush is bedraggled, yet easily navigated. Please no one slip on the wet paving stones though.
Mr Devine - More like Last of the Summer Wine going on in these blustery parts.
And No, Hecate, I would not like you to hump my leg, but thanks for the thought.
