Embankment

Some time back - not that long ago, actually - I promised Hound a gander at my embankment (because he likes that sort of thing, apparently).
Well, after a week or two of fannying around with the press releases being very busy and important actually, may I present my rather overgrown embankment (which Hound probably won't actually like because it is mostly green) - along with some photos of Hexenhäusli Device's grounds and surrounding environs.
 Oh, and some bluebells.

::

Oh, but first - for those not in the know - the embankment is part of the old Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Railway that ran from 1906 to 1953.  The track and most associated gubbins have long been removed, so all that's left around here are the embankments & cuttings, a couple of piles of bricks that used to be bridges (one still is), and Overstrand station (which is now someone's home).
So, anyway, first up is a photo of Hexenhäusli Device's grounds from just over a year ago (a month after we moved in) showing the embankment behind the fence:

And here are four photos from this month with the embankment in the background.  As you can see, preparations are underway for the 10th Annual Garden Photos Event which - shock horror! - is almost certainly not going to be hosted by The Very Mistress this year!  If you fancy yourself as Hostess with the Mostess, pop over to The Very Mistress's and declare your interest to host this illustrious event.

And here are some more photos of the surrounding environs:

Spring has sprung on Small Hopes Hill

A topless bridge...

... and cutting from the N&SJR along Small Hopes Hill

I thought this undulating, sun-dappled, glade-type affair in Northrepps was quite picturesque

Plenty of trees but I can't see any wood (a bit early in the season, perhaps)

Bluebells have just begun to bloom

And, finally, a photo I took last month (on my birthday, no less) whilst being dragged around Felbrigg by Inexcuseable and Count Podgkinson:

    1. Why, thank you, Maddie! Unfortunately, there's no spare room at the mo as I've taken it over as my working-form-home office, so we'll have to top-and-tail.

I am actually considering hosting The Very Mistress's Garden Photos Event now that she's suggested we all take it in turns.

    2. Oooh! "The Inexplicable Garden Photo Event"? Does one need to wear a hat when the judges arrive..? Jx

    3. Mr. DeVice, you certainly have enough room to host the event!

What does Beaky think about that pheasant?

    4. One needs to wear a hat at all times, Jon! This is a more highbrow event than RHS Chelsea!

Beaky is not too thrilled with having to share the garden with another, much larger and more strident, alpha male, Very Mistress. I've been putting out apple halves to placate him, but I've run out now and am getting "evils"...

  2. How did you develop this uncanny ability to make everything sound like an innuendo?
Actually I love an overgrown mound. And I even like this because it is nature attempting and failing to hide a man-made monstrosity.
Just promise not to trim it, it is so unbecoming and the train still pops out of the undergrowth 🚉
Actually I also love Small Hopes Hill! Everywhere round you sounds like a novel.
Except Felbrigg. That can only be in t'north and thus unmentionable.
Thanks for sharing your growth 🌵

    1. Innuendo is in the ear of the beholder, Hound dear...
Oh, go on then - I do try and insert one or two here and there for a bit of lip twitching.
Unlike you who just drops a barrel full everywhere!

    2. Awwww, now I feel bad. I'll just go and lick my bollocks under the table until someone comes to the door or there's a juicy crotch to sniff.
Bugger, done it again. And you went to the trouble of showing me your embankment 🐾

    3. I was about to grab Broom to sweep you out of here, but I had a vision of me in Nora Batty's wrinkly old tights and hair curlers and thought better of it...

  3. What a lovely wilderness you inhabit! And is that a cruising-ground I see before me..? Jx

    1. Cruising ground probably isn't far from the truth. Just beyond those trees is a caravan and campsite - I'm sure many a bored and/or frustrated father has skulked amongst the trees waiting for an opportunity to forget the wife-&-kids-filled tent for a while...

  4. Are you not tempted to lob a few wild flower seed bombs over the fence?

    1. Funnily enough, Mitzi, I do have some wild flower seeds for just that reason.

  5. With that new header you are spoiling us, Mr Devine!
You have an outside clock!!! I want an outside clock.

    1. Oh, my new header, yes! I was thinking of you the whole time I was making it - I'm glad you noticed.

Speaking of - you're noticing a lot of things: The clock was a gift I thought a tad naff, but I rather like it now - and it is handy. The pheasant is one of about six or seven that frequent the garden - this is his territory so he scares off the other two males when they try and take advantage. It was dfficult to get photos of the garden without him in them!

  6. I'm late as usual, and am sorry, please accept my apologies.
Did you ever make an expedition to the tunnel ? If you already did and i am just too unobservant, I will blame it on my crumbling intellectual abilities. I think I slowly fall apart.
Ut nevertheless, what happened to the tunnel ? It must be somewhere near you ?

    1. No apologies necessary, Mago. I've been dipping into the past few days at yours as I keep missing posts amongst your spate of prolificness.

You know, I did make a trip to that tunnel/bridge and thought of it while I was constructing this post, but I couldn't find it on the blog anywhere! I know I took some photos a couple of years or so back, and must have posted them here somewhere, but they keep eluding me.
I'm going to have to look through my photos to see if I can find it...
