Strictly: You're My Favourite

  Strictly Come Dancing is back!

Now starting its fifteenth series, the Strictly Come Dancing launch show aired yesterday evening, kicking off a glittering & sequinned Autumn full of Latin and Ballroom dancing that will see us through until Christmas.  Good job I don't have a social life as it's Saturday nights in front of the telly from here on in!
No change there then...
Fifteen celebrities of varying levels of fame and recognition, and from a range of backgrounds, have been paired up with professional dancers to compete for the Glitterball Trophy.  I'd only heard of about half of the celebs (much like with previous series), but it doesn't really matter much to me as I'd happily watch Strictly even if "civilians" were competing rather than celebs.  However, three celebs caught my eye during the launch show: Simon Rimmer (chef), who I enjoyed watching on Something for the Weekend; Gemma Atkinson (actress/model), who I was vaguely aware of but now love because she said her mum describes her as a "baby elephant" when she comes downstairs; and Davood Ghadami (actor), who I'd never heard of (he's in EastEnders, which I absolutely do not watch - too miserable and depressing) is ridiculously handsome, and also has a killer bod!

Davood auditioning for my Hallowe'en Spectacular!

As the dearly departed Sir Bruce Forsyth was fond of saying "You're my favourite."

In other televisual news, The Expanse is also back on Netflix.  The second season is primed and ready to go when I've finished re-watching Being Human.  Then I'm going to re-watch Jessica Jones (having recently binge-watched Marvel's Defenders) hopefully before Star Trek: Discovery airs near the end of September.

What have you all been watching, and is there anything coming up that you're really looking forward to (something new, or a returning show)?

I started constructing this post early this morning, but Chateau DeVice was invaded by both siblings and their families - one after the other - which prevented me from finishing it until now!

  1. I haven't watched any of the Dancing shows, so even less social life.

Recently binge watched all of the Seasons 1 to 6 Game of Thrones episodes, plus supplemental materials. Up next, re-watch all of the episodes with the director's commentary.

    1. Good grief! You can't have had time for anything else?!

I've got loads of DVDs with directors and actors commentaries, but have barely had the commentary turned on for any of them. However, I did have the Star Trek Insurrection (I think? Could have been another ST film) commentary on which was Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) and Jonathan Frakes (William Riker [and director]), and they were pretty amusing, so I might give some others a go.

    1. Isn't she. I found her to be quite endearing, and I'm looking forward to seeing how she and Kevin get on.

  3. So when are you becoming Inexplicable Devood?
I've just discovered Archer so that's me occupied for the next year.

    1. Hopefully sooner rather than later! Although, he does seem to be a little less tall than I'd prefer. But with a face and body like that, I don't really care!

Archer is something I keep meaning to try, but have never got around to yet.

    1. Ah, I've kept Davood practising in secret so as not to give anything away ;)

  5. Clearly, I am a sad little hide-away mouse with sod-all social life and nothing to talk about.
Must dash - meeting a friend for lunch!

  6. Watch watch watchwatch ... from where do you take the time ? Clearly you live in another continuum, maybe your time even runs backwards ?
And I have not heared about all these people. With the possible exemption of Ms Atkinson, I think I saw her name mentioned in this high quality paper called Daily Mail.

    1. Good gods. I wonder poor Ms Atkinson did to deserve being in that rag of hatred and bile?

As for Telly Time: It is coming at the expense of books, unfortunately. Instead of reading in bed, I now watch an hour or two of one of the aforementioned Netflix shows then drop off.

    2. I vaguely remeber to have read about the dangers of something called "blue light", emanations from screens, be it diverse "pads", computer monitors etc. This light seemingly muddles with something in our brains and does not help with sleep - as I saied, I vaguely remember this.
I just thought that now someone found something to make the last joy looking like a health hazard, after smoking, drinking, and lounging around lazily are outed as "killers".
In the absence of any screens near my bed I'll stick with the old fashioned, dusty book.

    3. Blue light? Oh, dear. Perhaps I'll go back to my book, too.

  7. Oh!!! I started watching Discovery last night. I am not sure if I like it yet.
So who do you think is going to go on Strictly tonight? I think it might be Gemma. Meanwhile, I am rather fascinated by Debbie McGee.

    1. My sister has already blabbed and told me who's going tonight :( Quite a surprising contestant to leave, I think.
Debbie McGee is rather good, isn't she? I hope she sticks around for a bit, but I think she may be voted off soon as I get the feeling that people find her annoying. Alexandra and Gorka's Paso was phenomenal, so I think she'll do well.

    2. I totally missed that you said Discovery - I must have skimmed it and assumed you said Strictly. D'Oh!
I don't know if I liked Discovery or not, either. Apparently, the first two episodes are a prologue, then Discovery starts proper with the third ep (on tomorrow!). Even if it turns out to be a bit rubbish, there's still Jason Isaacs and Shazad Latif in space suits to drool at!

  8. How does your sister know? Was she there??? Can she get us tickets?? Does she do spray tans???? Did Debbie go???? NOOOOOOOOOOO! But I know what you mean about the public not warming to her.

    1. The answer to all your questions (except the first one) is "no". She knows because she looked it up on some silly Strictly Secrets (or somesuch) website. The stupid girl.
