Sunday Stroll

This holed piece of chalk looks like
an adorable little alien skull
Having been cooped up in the house this morning because of the (admittedly light) rain and making sure that Chrysaor had gathered all his things together before he left, when the sun came out this afternoon, I took myself down onto the beach to get some air.
Svaathor offered to come with me, but the last time we took a stroll on the beach he moaned constantly because sand kept getting stuck in his hooves, so I thanked him but made sure to point out that he could "get a lot of his River Mun study done on a lovely afternoon like this". Luckily, he agreed and made his way back to Frogshall.

Once he'd gone, I set off up to Cromer lighthouse then down the rather precarious (and slippery) steps to the beach. I walked east towards Overstrand along the edge of the breaking waves, then I turned around once I'd got to Overstrand's main beach and made my way back along the high tide line which is where I took the following photographs.
As always click to embigulate (and then you can right click to further engorge the photos)!

Beach and sky

Groyne/breakwater posts just poking up out of the high sand and stone beaches

A skate or dogfish "mermaids' purse" (top left) and various common whelk egg cases (bubblewrap-of-the-beach)

Various bits of sea-worn wood, and a rusty old bit of pipe

Colourful stones

Crab leg, lobster claw, and some sort of fish bones

Flotsam and jetsam

Broken whelk shells

I found the top-left almost-star like that, so I added another twig to complete it (bottom right).

  1. When I head to our beaches, all I ever find is beautiful shells. I never see things like this. Are you sure that isn't a alien skull??? You better call Skully and Mulder.

    1. Oh, they stopped returning my calls when I accidently let slip the brand of hair dye Scully uses.

Or was it becuase I accidently let slip that she uses hair dye?

    2. How dare you, her hair is a natural shade of 541.
My 'manager' went to Dungeness with her 'husband' to see Derek Jarman's jardin. Can you believe they didn’t go to see the nuclear reactor?

    1. Thank you. Yes, I like them too - mainly for the cracks and rings as seen from above.

  3. Awesome fotos! Your beach & seas are full of life & diversity, as evidenced by the plethora of biologic & geologic specimens that are liberally sprinkled on the landscape, & you brilliantly captured with your beautiful fotos! These are postcard worthy pieces of art!

I do admit the caption of flotsam & jetsam made think of the eel henchmen from the Little Mermaid, & I wondered if those were pieces of Ursula scattered around the shells.

P.S. Good call on ditching the beach companion. The only thing worse than having a whiny hoofed companion on a stroll on the beach is having to pick up after the whiny hoofed companion answering nature's call on the beach.

    1. Ha! I thought of those two evil eels when I wrote that!

P.S. Quite. A piddly little dog poop bag just wouldn't cut it - I'd need a bin/garbage bag!

    1. Why, thank you, Savvy. I wouldn't visit until the summer though, if I were you - And even then, the temperatures are probably way off those in California. Bring a coat. Or two!

    2. flotsam and Jetsam! I made life sized costumes for a production of Little mermaid a while back... I had terrible trouble getting the kids to take the costumes off after each rehersal they loved them so much...
As for your photo's once a gain a stunning array... I too ehjoy taking shots of the smaller details that can be found on a walk often overlooked by those in a greater hurry... thankyou again darling

    3. Oh, yes! I remember your fabulous costumes. Particularly that Angler Fish one with the light-up teeth!

  5. Groynes. Such an odd word. One which people feel peculiar about saying, I find.
I am enjoying your beach walks.

    1. Quite. I didn't like typing it, and almost just resorted to the far less harrowing and shameful "breakwater" instead.

  6. I think you should make blank greeting cards with these photos and sell them to tourists. They're gorgeous.

    1. Why, thank you!

It helps that tourists will buy any old tat.
