Four Photos: The Drier Side of Britain

Something for Ms Scarlet to consider...
(Proof of North Norfolk's dryness compared to Devon's - well, Cornwall, as Bude is the closest weather station to Ms Scarlet's neck of the woods)

Stinking iris or roast-beef plant (Iris foetidissima)
(A native to Britain, but "exotic" in New Zealand - the tables are turning, Dinah!)

(I've included this as a reminder for me to concoct an Art vs Artist collage)

An unused photo from 2023's Salt Rooks
You know, to show how dry it is here and all that...

  1. I would enter the "battle of the rainfall", but I'm from Wales - which is probably even wetter than Devon - so I'd win. Oh! This isn't a competition? Shame.

PS How do you stay so skinny?!! Or do those space parasites behave like tapeworms and get to your stomach contents before you do?

    1. Yes, having checked the Met Office graphs, you'd definitely win, Jon. While Bude has a measley 905 mm of rain a year, Cardiff manages 1203! (And Overstrand - or Weybourne, just a little to the west, is barely worth mentioning at 636 mm.)

As for my skinniness, I put that down to being a terrible fusspot! There's not a meal in the world that hasn't got something in it that I'll turn my nose up at. Except for beans on toast - but they have to be the right beans!

  2. We are due rain tomorrow!!! Unbelievable. Actually I'm pleased, it's been difficult to sleep the last couple of nights so a stiff breeze and some drizzle will be welcome.
    The Iris looks unwell!!
I look forward to the art v artist collage.

    1. So, did you get some rain? Are you in the middle of a down pour right now?
We're forcast a 10% chance of rain about 6ish, but I doubt anything will come of it.

I've always thought those irises look like they've been formed out of intestines and the like. I still like them, though.

Oh, and I've done my Art vs Artist collage - I'll post it in the next few days, I should think. Don't get your hopes up for anything amazing as it's all stuff that's been featured here before.

    2. Indeed, there has been rain and a 2hr power cut. It's very muggy, and ugh.

    4. We had a half-arsed shower just now, and it's also muggy and ugh here, too.

I love the new header banner, too - very arty, dear! Jx

    5. It's getting to be muggy and ugh here, too. I hope we do get some rain to clear it. Although, I'm due to go down to the beach with my sisters & co. in an hour or so, so that'll take the edge off - if I can stand all the shrieking!

Oh, and thank you for the header banner compliments. I thought it was time for a change! ( I made it out of a photo from May's "Let there be light" Four Photos post)

  3. I'm excited to hear about this prospect of Art v Artist. When? Soon? Those bugs do seem rather bothersome! I thought your soul was leaving your body at first until I clicked to embiggen and saw it was another bug.

I too like the new banner, though as a Technical Writer and Editor I'd like to politely suggest dropping down the DE ICE for a smidge of space between the two words for better readability, while keeping the A and V together. I see what you're doing there and it's a cool idea! Of course, you don't have to take any of my advice, you can tell me to shove it and I won't be offended. I can drive myself crazy trying to get fonts and spacing "just so" and maybe you've already done that to yourself, and you don't need me delaying the end to your torture!

    1. Oh, Melanie, don't get too excited for Art vs Artist - it's just a three-by-three square grid of different types of Star Trek art I've produced over the last few years. I'll post it in a bit.
I'll also pop up some of the wips for my new header. The merged A & V was a happy accident, but I was too hot and rushed to sort it out properly. I'm grateful for your input - it's always good to have some constructive critique and/or other opinions.

  4. Nice new header, interesting typography, especially the commanding "A"+"V" combination. I also liked the Lebensrune in the former one.

    1. Thank you, dear Mago. I like the combined AV too, but have finally decided on a joined diamond instead.
I'm sure the Lebensrune will make a comeback in some form.

  5. Love the posters,
    not sure of the Iris,
I never expected to see you writhing around on the carpet with something down your throat but it's art so that's OK,
Interesting photo of your salt rock but it would not last two minutes in Sunny (wet) Devon.

    1. The iris is ostensibly a weed, but it is still one of my favourite British plants.

Ha ha haa! You can get away with all sorts by calling it "art"!

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
