Hello, and welcome to the Infomaniac Garden Photos Event's Hallowe'en show:
Terrifying Triffidery!
As with previous years, please make your way around the various specimens and, if the mood strikes you, try and guess what each triffid mutated from and which of the Blogorati propagated it. Not everyone who's taking part in the main event submitted a triffid, so to make things a bit easier for you, those who did are listed on the poster above-
Which I spent the best part of yesterday making!
You'd never have guessed he watched Psycho recently, would you? Anyway, as I was saying, not everyone submitted a triffid, and some of those who did sent in more than one, so you may have your work cut out for you. The Host has labelled each specimen, so you just need to mention the number in the comments when making your guess rather than trying to describe the hideous things. And don't get too close to the triffids during your inspections lest we have to cut you out of them! Speaking of:
Due to some missing limbs - and indeed whole persons - during last year's show, Health & Safety have insisted on the employment of some sort of security guard-cum-triffid wrangler. So, I made some enquiries and garnered the services of Gavin the Gardener who, according to Peenee's pictorial review, has some experience with triffids.
Don't
let his beautiful, vacant face give you pause - just look at those
monstrous arms: they are almost as terrifying as the triffids! With my own eye I have witnessed Gavin grapple a triffid of great girth to its exhaustion, whereupon it promptly covered the poor young man with some sort of thick, sticky excreta. I assure you, he is well up to the task at hand.
Now, before you set off on the tour, here's a musical accompaniment in the form of Bright Light x2 with "Down to One" which first caught my ear and eye at Jon's.
If you stay behind the velvet ropes and don't dilly-dally at the exhibits, I'm sure the song's video won't be prophetic...
☙❧
T #1 : Overseeing the proceedings is this long-eared owl.
At least, I think that's what it is?
T #12 : I think this was the result of the camera wielder falling over whilst running away from those approaching triffids?
☙❧
Right. Hold on to your lunch, I've saved the most terrifying specimen until last:
.
.
.
T #13 : Unlucky for some, and in this case EXTREMELY unlucky for one in particular if The Very Mistress is about!
☙❧
Blimey! The crowd's thinned out a bit, hasn't it? There's not many left.
Perhaps I should have positioned the ropes a bit further back?
Hang on a mo... Where's Gavin??
What? Oh, umm... I'm sure he's around here somewhere. Why don't you see to the survivors while I, um, see to that... thing, that I... um... Won't be long!
Hmmph. Right.
So, well done for making it to the end. Go and patch yourselves up then leave your comment and/or guess belo- What? Well, did you have two arms when you came in? Oh, try the lost property box, then.
Sorry about that. What was I saying? Oh, yes: you have a couple of days to peruse the specimens and leave a comment, then the main event will begin. See you then!
Oh, and for anyone who hasn't yet submitted their photos and wants to take part, there's still time - please email me your garden (indoor and/or out) photos within the next few days, and certainly by the weekend (this blog's email address is in our profile on the Sideboard on the right). Thank you!
Blimey! That's a creepy bunch of triffids!
ReplyDeleteOh this is so hard! I think Mels came up with the beautiful ballerinas and bats #4 and #3.
Dinah or Mistress M for #8. Mels for #6. Erm... Mr Devine, I think brought us #7 and #12 and Jon #2. I am confused about all the rest!! Warty Wand? Mistress M, Jon or Mr Devine!!!
Sx
Some adroit deflecting there, Ms Scarlet. And amongst all that you got at least one right!
DeleteWhoever came up with #3 and #4 is a poet!
ReplyDeleteSx
But I think they are actually different cameras.
DeleteSx
You are correct that they were taken by different cameras...
DeleteI CAN'T EVEN BEGIN to phantom who's is whose, but they are downright disturbing some of them. From scary, to painful looking, to alien like. That said the orchid and the sleeping ballerinas are downright gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteDisturbing just about sums it up, Ms Goldberg-DeWoofs!
DeleteI give up. But wait! #3 has salvias in it so my guess is it's Jon, tormenting me again!
ReplyDeleteDon't give up just yet - you're on a roll!
DeleteWow! So difficult to guess... I think I can probably surmise that the orchid at #8 might be Dinah's (and that's definitely her at #13), and the wasp on that allium at #9 doesn't look like a UK native, so that would suggest that it and #2 might be from Mads or Mel? The rest is tricky - at a push I'd say the fungi at #4 and #7 are yours..? Jx
ReplyDeletePS Love the poster! And the new "head" gardener...
DeleteAs with Ms Scarlet, you have at least one correct guess there. Possibly three if you can decide on one (I didn't mean that to be as cryptic as it looks/sounds).
DeleteP.S. Thank you! And, yes, he's "coming" along quite nicely.
DeleteOh gosh, crying from surprise and delight. I've never gotten top billing on a poster before! Wait, but this is about terrifying Triffids and on Halloween. Oh no, Is this my Carrie at the prom movie moment?
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really hard! Aside from recognizing my own contributions maybe I can guess Dinah's, I think she's #1.
Is Jon #8? I bet he could pull off keeping an orchid alive.
Six for sure and maybe 7 are Thistles. Hmm, There's the Order of the Thistle. Who's closest to Scotland? Mr Devine? Scarlet? Why shoot! Even I got thistles here! Argh!
Most of us live in wet boggy places except for Dinah...and the suckulent and mantrap warty wand could be house plants. Cousins of Audrey II probably. Quick! Somebody through that croc at it!
Fear not, Mels - there are no dangling buckets of pigs blood here. At least none that I put up, anyway...
DeleteThere's almost a correct guess there. But something you said simply must be done: throwing that Croc away!
number 11 looks like a climax shot. what kind of show is this anyhow? I should put a blurp on the mistress's blog, that is if im not locked out of the casa du borghese.
ReplyDeleteexcuse me, a need a bath after seeing this.
Ha ha! Yes, that glistening string certainly gives #11 a climactic quality!
DeleteI hope you're not locked out of the Casa du Borghese - after all, who will look after the Houseboys in her absence? They certainly can't look after themselves.
Currently, I'm across the ditch for a quick visit to some oldies. And right when I should have been sorting and sending photos...my modem died and I had Hell's own (Hell Zone?) time of getting things sorted.
ReplyDeleteOK, so now you know...I have crocs. Ghastly things that fill with sand/grit/water. Why the blue blazes are they made with HOLES? I'm going back to old-fashioned sneakers.
Hell Zone sounds about right when dealing with modems. You have my sympathies. But not for the Crocs filling with crap thing - that should be punishment enough, but wait until The Very Mistress gets here!
DeleteP.S. Thanks for the phtos you managed to send in. If you have any more, you have plenty of time - your post will probably be published on or around the 20th.
GAHHH!!!!
DeleteDid you find the smelling salts, Very Mistress? Have you recovered yet?
DeleteThere is no coming back from THAT shock.
DeleteOh my Golly Gosh what a fab collection and your man can tackle my Triffid any time.
ReplyDeleteI am at a loss at guessing what came from whom but the poster is fabulous. Well done you.
Gavin is a VERY capable young man, Madam A. He can take on several triffids at once - which is fortunate as he is in high demand, it seems!
DeleteAnd, thank you!
