Of Prophet's Tears and Verteron Nodes...

OK. Here is my entry for the February Art Challenge as mentioned in the previous post.

"Hey, you lot! Come and look at this" yelled the first verteron node.
"Oooh! The Prophets have been crying golden tears again" said the second.
"I can see my face in it..."

§

As you can tell - and as Witchface kindly pointed out - I didn't even try to come up with anything new. Instead, I combined the sculpturalesque golden "Tear of the Prophets" with my paper lantern-filled green glass demijohn (from the most recent Items of Interest post) to create an unfilmed scene from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine pilot episode "Emissary".
The lanterns stood in for the verteron nodes present in the Celestial Temple/wormhole, and in my photo, they're peering at the Tear (or orb, as they are also known) containing Jadzia Dax as it passes by on the way to Deep Space 9.

I did try stuffing the orb in the demijohn with the lights, but it just looked all wobbly like a soap opera flashback/dream sequence...

  1. Oh, nice mash-up and a clever bit of recycling as well!

    Did you win yet?

    1. Thanks! It's amazing what a lack of time and some sheer laziness can accomplish!

No. Not won yet, but my "Tear of the Prophets" has got two votes already. Someone else has got five, though...

    Whatever ... just be careful.

    1. Don't worry, Mago. I always carry a small mirror, a folder tenner, and a puncture repair kit, just in case!

    2. You sound like me going out on a Saturday night 50 years ago!Only my folding was a ten bob note!Bloody inflation!

    3. I realised after I'd hit 'publish' that a tenner wouldn't go very far nowadays...

  3. How big is that demijohn?
Have you finished making the gowns yet?

    1. It's the size of a small Space Hopper. Or a large pumpkin. Cauldron sized!

Finished? I haven't even started! Although I have got some ideas...

  4. Bravo! They do look like verteron nodes! All sparkly and shimmery.

But I do admit that my first thought upon seeing them was, "It's the Jellyfish Forest from finding Nemo."

    1. I hope they don't sting the orb. Who knows how the Prophets might retaliate?

  5. Good luck with the competition. Not being a big fan of sci fi I have no idea what you are referring to but I do think your work looks brilliant dispite my ignorance.

    1. Thank you Prinny and The Very Mistress.

The competition's closed now and despite getting another three votes making my total five, the winner received eight votes (and rightly so), so I graciously accepted second place. At least it means I don't have to come up with the theme for March's Art Challenge!

    2. I doubt very much that had you won... coming up with a theme for March's art challenge would not have been a difficult task given your encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Trek and even obscurely Trek related darling....

Tickle my fancy, why don't you?
