I went up the allotment today to strim the grass (and weeds) and harvest the first loganberries, and noticed that the cherries are almost ripe - and still on the tree! There're only a few that are barely ripe, but I picked all those I could reach and ate them. Up yours, Beaky!

In other news, I am still around but haven't had much time for visiting your blogs or updating my own - never mind anything else - due to Parent Problems. Their increasing age and deteriorating health (not to mention The Father's luck at generating a rare skin condition - drama queen) have kept me otherwise engaged and very close to the end of my tether. Fortunately, things seem to have settled somewhat in the last day or two, hence my cherry scoffing and this post. Hopefully things will return to relative normality soon.
Oh, bless. There is a certain stage in everyone's life when the "child" and "parent" roles swap over. Sorry to hear yours has started, but also pleased to hear that there's some welcome respite from it. For the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love cherries, and I am amazed that you have some ripening this early. Beating Beaky to them is indeed a victory! Gardening keeps us all sane and grounded. Jx
Enjoy your cherries, it sounds like you deserve them.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read about your parents - the child/parent switchover is a tough time - keep treating yourself!
ReplyDeleteMy dog destroyed a Blackbird's nest in our garden, and when he'd finished with that he ate the strawberries.
Sx
You have to get in early to beat 'Beaky' so well done on that!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your family stuff but glad to know that things have settled down a bit.
Those cherries look luscious except for that manky one. Sorry to hear about the parent situation, they are a worry at that age.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the troubles with your parents. Congratulations on one-upping Beaky.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try your cherry.....huh. I meant cherries, yes cherries!!!! They look plump and lip smacking good!
ReplyDeleteMy blueberries are coming in now, so I must cover them with a mosquito netting to keep the catbirds and robin and bluebirds from getting them, even though I will pick the small ones and leave then near the feeders for them.
Sorry to hear for the health of your parents, I hope they will get along better and improve...but you're a good son. Too many just sweep family under the carpet so speak these days.
I echo what others are saying...have a hug ((IDV))
ReplyDeleteMoi aussi, mon cher M. DeVice.
DeleteDinah, I'll take a hug, too if one's going.
Huigs always available, free of charge, for friends (TVM)
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about your parents. My dad was a carpet cleaner for years. It's sad to see him pass that on to others as his age won't allow him to do that work anymore.
