Sharing the day with another panoply of names including Karl Marx, Sylvia Pankhurst, Lance Henriksen, Tammy Wynette, Marc Alaimo, Michael Palin, John Rhys-Davies, Richard E. Grant, Simon Rimmer, Dieter Brummer, Santiago Cabrera, Craig David, Henry Cavill, Adele and - erm - Maggie MacNeal...
... it's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' "birthday" today. "Oh, gods..." I hear you sigh...
Strange New Worlds is the eleventh Star Trek spin-off series and a prequel to the original 1960s series. It stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike (the USS Enterprise's second captain and the first to be filmed in the original pilot "The Cage"), Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley (Number One), and Ethan Peck as Spock.
Amongst the many themed episodes is "Subspace Rhapsody", a musical from season two, and here is the finale "We Are One":
(If you think this is weird, season four - out this summer - has a Muppet episode!)

I just discovered the 'singing episodes'! Leave it to us to be on the same Trek vibe!
ReplyDeleteThere's quite a bit of singing aboard Captain Pike's Enterprise, isn't there. I hope there's more in Season 4!
DeleteTribbles are kind of like muppets aren’t they? Why did the Borg never meet Tribbles??
ReplyDeleteSx
I think the Borg knew well enough to stay clear of Tribbles. I mean, if Tribbles can frighten off the Klingons, then the Borg don't stand a chance!
DeleteA musical Star Trek. How odd... and interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhile there has been singing in Star Trek before, this is the first time they've done a full on musical. As you may imagine, it has divided the fans. I'm definitely all for it, though!
Delete"Panoply" is a fab word, isn't it? Rather a "woody word", indeed!
ReplyDeleteI'll check out the "singing-and-dancing-Star-Trek" sketch later, methinks, as I am in a rather laid-back catch-up mode today (garden and blogs) and have a lot to catch up on... Jx
I can't believe I haven't seen that Monty Python sketch before! Poor Mrs Vermin-Jones.
