It's another snippets post, dear reader (but this one's almost all about me!):
- At the end of April, I finally got around to making this Forest Cottage, a Tiny Treehouse kit that Inexcuseable got me for my birthday. It was one of the more fiddly kits and took me several hours - on and off - to complete. Well, I say complete, I have one piece left over - I just hope it isn't structural!
- This is my favourite tree in Norwich - or at least the bits of Norwich I walk through on my way to work. However, I don't know what type of tree it is, so perhaps one of you, dear readers, can enlighten me?
- My giant vipers buglosses (Echiums) started to flower on the last day of April - you should be able to make out a couple of the pale purple/blue flower buds in the close-up. There are loads of flowers on them now - I'll be posting more photos soon.
- Saturday morning's walk with Bitey found us walking along the promenade and over the base of the cliff (because the tide was right in) to the east beach. Or the narrow strip between the revetments and cliffs. I tried to get Bitey to strike some poses on the steps over the revetment, and eventually (after looking at me like I was losing my mind), he managed one.
Don't worry, this is not Raspberry. It is Raspberry's 'friend' though. He died quickly.
- And finally: Although Mr Mago is currently on holiday, I don't think this German tourist is him. He doesn't strike me as one for sun loungers, anyway.
And the weather? Blue skies abound! For now, anyway...

Wow, our posts nearly ended up being the same for today!! Views, Dogs and Bluebells!! I changed my mind and went for a sort of rehash instead.
ReplyDeleteBitey is so cute, and I had a dead Raspberry in my garden a few months back.
I will ask an expert about the make of tree.
Sx
P.S Forgot to say: Love the forest cottage!
DeleteThat tree looks a bit like an Ash, but it probably isn't.
Sx
My tree expert said could you take a non-shadowed picture of the trunk, and perhaps a close up of the leaves?
DeleteI must say, it looks precarious hanging over the road!
Sx
Your rehash is very entertaining - even without dogs and bluebells. The view is stunning!
DeleteI did wonder if the tree was an ash, but there's a crown-shy ash around the corner which looks a bit different, so I don't think this one is an ash. I've said ash too much. I will take some photos when I'm in Norwich next week. (You are very fortunate to have a tree expert on hand!)
I love the forest cottage, my dream home, you must have the patience of a saint to cobble that together. Good boy Bitey!
ReplyDeleteIt's a little exposed for our climate, but plop it down in a jungle somewhere and the open air design is just right to admit a vine-swinging Tarzan!
DeleteBitey is a Good Boy - The whole family (and one or two of the neighbours) are very pleased with his work.
I need to see an optician...I read "a wine-swigging Tarzan."
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the bugloss flowers.
I would not be averse to swigging wine with Tarzan...
DeleteThe bottom third of both bugloss "trunks" are covered in flowers now. I'll share some snaps when the whole lengths are abloom!
Oh, Bitey, I just finished breakfast! I love the forest cottage. I’ve often thought of buying one of those kits.
ReplyDeleteI too love the little forest cottage. I wonder who makes those. A better question would be do I have the patience to attempt one?
DeleteBitey says don't worry if you're full, Mitchell - he'll catch you another before you've eaten next time.
DeleteThe Forest Cottage is delightful, isn't it! I've got another to make - Horizon's Edge. They're quite time consuming to make, but once I got started, I found it difficult to stop and take a break.
The kits come from Tiny Treehouses - they ship to Europe, the UK, USA, and Australia.
I may have to look into this. I mean between gardening and my tricks, opps, huh.... I meant my gentlemen friends...I need something to keep idle hands busy.....
DeleteI very much doubt your hands are very idle for long, Maddie. You always seem to have your hands full with something. Or someone(s)...
DeleteAnd just what is that dead thing? A rat??????
ReplyDeleteIt seems the blogger issue might be fixed(crosses fingers) and good thing before my return...heads might have started rolling. And you did a fine job of filling in for dear Jon...I dare say it was Jon blogging. Are you available for blog stint stand in's like in say in June and August?
A giant rat, Maddie. A giant rat!
DeleteYes, I noticed that my Sideboard (and others) seemed to be updating - although it's still a few hours behind in some cases. There must have been some panicking going on at Google when they learned you were about to return from your holiday!
I could be persuaded to engage in another stint of daily blogging, Maddie...
Bitey got a rat! Good boy! - only a few hundred more of the vermin to go - and while your at it, dear dog - get some bastard squirrels, too!
ReplyDelete"German complains about sunbed-hogging" was a gift for the British tabloids, wasn't it? It reminds me of the old adage from newspaper magnate Lord Northcliffe: "When a dog bites a man, that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news."
Who knew that you were so into Sylvanian Families?
I can't wait to see those Echiums in full flower - they are utterly stunning!
The "mystery tree" most likely is an ash: Narrow-leaved Ash - Fraxinus angustifolia. Check back in autumn, and if the leaves are a deep, deep purply-bronze colour, that is it.
You kept up the good work, sweetie, in your attempt at "snippets"! Jx
Bitey would love to get a squirrel. He's absolutely livid when they have the audacity to run through the trees behind Hexenhausli Device. He found a dead one on the road once and carried it for a mile or two before dropping it to have a poo.
DeleteI did used to arrange my youngest sister's Sylvanian Family toys when we were very much younger. And then got annoyed when they were played with, ruining all my hard work.
The Echiums are nearly there. It's difficult to get a photo of their full height, but I've found almost laying down by the waterbutts works.
As for the mystery tree, I took a photo of the bark and leaves (as close as I could get, anyway) as Ms Scarlet suggested, so I'll post them at some point soon. However, after looking at your link (and one or two others), I suspect you and Ms Scarlet are correct in that it's an ash.
