The tinsel is a dead giveaway...

Oof!  I'm back!  Well, briefly, at any rate.

I've had some things to deal with which is why I've been, well, not here...  And despair at the state of the world is only part of it.  Signs of an impending infestation of unicorns, and that little shit Beaky skulking around the garden have been of more concern...

.  .  .

But first, to accompany your scrolling, here's another almost certainly miserable* song from my favourite glum, beardy miseryguts, White Lies: "Time To Give"

* I try not to listen to the lyrics, remember?

.  .  .

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: Beaky.

This was the view from my kitchen window this morning.  Looks okay, doesn't it?
Until you notice the blurs of black on the bench and birdtable...

Aha!  Got you!

What are you up to, you little git?

Not wanting to get caught up in Beaky's twisted machinations, I popped out on Broom to collect some ingredients for a little pick-me-up, but fresh toad is hard to come by at the moment:

It was while I was out and about that I came across these:

Unicorn hoof-prints.
Great.  Just what we were missing - an infestation of horny, belligerant,

How do I know these are unicorn hoof-prints and not from a common-or-garden horse?
The tinsel is a dead giveaway.
(It's usually glitter, but they must've had some leftover from Christmas)

.  .  .

I'll leave you with these less harrowing photos from my foray on Broom:

That's it for now.  We shall be back in some form or other-
Unless Beaky gets us first?
::shudder::
Shhh... We will not be got by that little upstart!
Anyway, we'll be back at the end of next week.
Or maybe the week after, as we have that week off work?
Whenever!  We'll see you again before the end of March.

  1. Something (or someone?) must be keeping you very busy, indeed..!

PS Maybe Beaky is in cahoots with the unicorns, to make sure your blood pressure stays at boiling-point?

    1. The closest thing I have to a 'someone' is the foxy lifeguard at the pool on my swimming days. I'm sure he knows I exist? Perhaps I should feign drowning to see what he'll do?

And I wouldn't put it past Beaky to invite a load of undesirables into the neighbourhood.

  2. Nice to have you back Mr D. even if it is just briefly.
Hope the Unicorns don't become to bothersome.

    1. The only good think to come out of a unicorn infestation is that there'll be plenty of manure for the garden!

  3. It looks absolutely Spring-like thereabouts.

  4. Will you be back for your birthday?

    I'm asking for a friend.

    1. You may tell your friend that, yes, I will be back for that particular date (I have the week off work, so I'll have plenty of time for visiting blogs and the like).

  5. How very hopeful it all appears... even with the impending gloom of world affairs. Well.. we all must hold on and do our collective best - pool our positive energies and turn this thing around... an infestation of unicorns? We could do worse. Kizzes.

    1. Yes, Spring is a time for light and wonder and joy. We'll soon have enough positivity to banish the gloom, unicorns or not!

    1. Why, thank you, Hound!

Car is... (un)surprising me with yet more ailments, unfortunately. So, yesterday, I ordered a new one. I only hope that Car can last the 12-16 weeks before Car 2.0 arrives.

    1. I have a feeling that toad may have been trampled by a unicorn. I doubt they'd be able to trample Beaky, though - he's a wily little stinker.

  8. I'm trying to blog every day right now, so I hope that helps balance out your absence, sweetpea! Or something like that. xoxo

    1. OOH, Savvy...could you bung in a couple of posts for me? I'm sure the blogisphere is about to stage a wake for me!

    2. It does, Savvy. It does! Keep it up and I may only have to post something a couple of times this year!

  9. Hello, stranger!
You will have noted, just above this, that I'm trying to drag Savvy in to spin some waffle for me.
Every time I think I'll get something written...a roof leaks, or a tap wont turn off or I have a cooking disaster*
But it is good to see you out and about on Broom and Camera riding shotgun, as it were. Try this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doyE9eYuhA0

*which may be mentioned in my next post...

    1. In the time it's taken me to arrive and note your outsourced waffle-spinning (v.impressive, by the way), I note that you managed some in-house, too (which is even more impressive considering the plague of frogs you had to endure).

Oh, but I really want to talk to the lifeguard! Well, one in particular. Actually, I'm off for a swim shortly so we'll see...

  10. We'll withhold staging the Wake for you now... I could use an infestation of Unicorns around here right about now.

    1. If I can manage to round them up, I'll gladly send them your way. Just be sure you have some anti-wish ointment to hand and that pretty much everything that you own is trample-proof.

  11. It seems we're all losing track of time right now. How is it Saturday again already? Do you do Daylight Savings in the UK? I hate it! Every year they say they'll do away with it here, but I won't believe it until its stricken from our calendars. I take whatever non-rainy day I can to get a head start on the yard work. I'm also now frequenting a swimming pool for exercise. No sexy lifeguards for me to ogle, probably just as well. There is one man who occasionally shows up on Thursday mornings that looks a lot like my most hated ex-boyfriend. How unfortunate for him. I have to make conscious effort not to give him laser eyes or induce a brain aneurysm. Otherwise, I'm making some lovely new friends.

    1. Oh, yes, our time jumps happen at the end of October and the end of March, so we're due to lose an hour at the weekend :(

Ah, swimming! Do you feel better for it, too? I'm doing it as much for my mental health as well as for the physical benefits. I must admit, the sexy lifeguard is rather a distraction, so it's quite nice when he's not there (although I do miss him).
Oh, dear... Poor Occasional Thursday Man ;)

  12. Happy birthday dear boy. Hope you get your leg humped by a nice dog.
And Car 2.0? You mean there are two Alfa Romeos still roadworthy?

    1. Ah, thank you, Hound! While I did see a nice dog (or two) on my birthday, there was a decided lack of humping, unfortunately.

One less roadworthy Alfa now - Car needs yet another trip to the garage. I think its trying to kill me - either by embarrassment (it cut out at some traffic lights this morning), or asphyxiation/explosion (there is a VERY strong smell of fuel/oil in the cabin when it does deign to go).

  13. I thought I had been here?? Apologies!
I think the squashed frog may have frightened me off - I actually withheld myself from photographing the squashed Beaky outside my house. It is the season for squashing, unfortunately.

    1. A squashed Beaky? What a shame you didn't get a snap - it would have been an ideal threat to deter this Beaky from some of his more dastardly plots!
