Wot I Did On My Birthday, by IDV (aged 44 & fourteen halfs*)

Well, yes, I did go for a walk as the photos above attest, but the evening before, I actually went out.  With actual people (four friends).  To a bar (for cocktails)!  Yes, I know.

Anyway, we went to Shoreline in Cromer because I didn't fancy spending all night standing in a noisy, packed pub getting hot and bothered (and not in a good way) and not hearing what anyone was saying.  I had three cocktails - a Cromer colada (basically a piña colada with apricot rum or schnapps or something), a Garden sour (a Spring special made with rhubarb gin, lemon juice and syrup), and an Ameretto sour - and didn't have to open my purse once because my lovely, generous friends bought them!
Shoreline doesn't seem to have a website but they are on IG and FB (I'm not linking to them as I don't approve of the whole Meta thing, but if you're curious you can find them under shorelinecromer).

I neglected to take photos of the place or the cocktails, so I nabbed these from the web.  It was not raining or wet when we went.

Right.  That's Saturday night out of the way.  Here are the rest of the photos from Sunday morning's birthday walk with Bitey.
We walked into Cromer along the beach and met a couple of friends (one of whom was out with me on Saturday night) and their dogs - a black lab and a Dobermann.  We got coffee and hot chocolates on the prom(enade) then went back along the beach a little way and up the steps to the lighthouse.  It was there that we parted, my friends going home in Cromer and me and Bitey walking back along the cliffs to Overstrand:

The sky was quite blue, as you can see in this photo.
You can tell it's the sky because there are a couple of sea gulls in it (if you embiggen and squint).

Speaking of blue, look what was waiting for me when I got home:

My nieces (aged nearly 10 and nearly 13) made it.  There is still some left.

After I'd stuffed myself with party food - incuding half a black forest gateau - I walked back into Cromer to see Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary at the cinema.  Both he and the film were very engaging (I've only seen him in Murder by Numbers which I don't remember as it was so long ago, and Blade Runner 2049).

* but we don't count the halfs.

    1. Fortunately, the cake wasn't mint flavoured. This time.

  2. Three cock-a-tails?!! Where's my fainting chaise..?

Sounds like more of a walking weekend than a party one, but glad you had a fun time, dear. Jx

PS Project Hail Mary looks like it's going to be one of those films that we'd possibly watch if there was nothing else on telly on a wet Bank Holiday. Like I, Robot or Armageddon, for example.

    1. Well, yes, I suppose there was quite a bit of walking involved. At least it helped burn off the cock-a-tail calories, I suppose.

Oh, PHM is MUCH better than I, Robot and Armageddon! It's a lot quieter and personal than the trailer might lead you to believe - it's more about friendship than huge, elaborate 'splodey set pieces. I found out afterwards that there wasn't any green screen filming - all the effects were practical, and Rocky was a puppet!

  3. I’m pleased you had a good time on your birthday, and the weather behaved for the walking.
    Did my card arrive?
Oops - I will restore your sideboard tomorrow morning!! I wondered what was going on when I arrived here - and then I remembered. I have a lot more halves than you do, hence my forgetfulness!
    Sx

    1. I can't quite believe that I had such a good - and fun (replying to Jon, here) - birthday! Other than the obligatory family get together, this is the first time I've filled my birthday (and the evening before) with things I want to do - it was brilliant! I might have to do it again next year.

Oh, sorry, yes, the topiary Great Wave off Kanagawa did arrive, thank you!

P.S. I have taken a screenshot of your Sideboard Invasion for evidence, so you can take it down whenever you want.

  4. Those nature pictures!!!!!! I'm glad you had a nice birthday out. Three cocktails? Hell, that's my hourly count! Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying a fag from the tete a tete in bed from your birthday gift...... was it as good for you as it was for me?

    1. I did think of you while I was out cock-a-tailing, and just knew I'd never catch up!
As for the birthday gift - it was so good that I'm having one too!

  5. You're so brave celebrating the 30th anniversary of your 21st birthday in public like that. I have friends who I went to school with, who know my real age and those that don't, never the twain shall meet. Glad you enjoyed it.

    1. I almost didn't disclose my age, but then realised that I've mentioned it before here and there and almost all of the few people who still visit would have seen it and known anyway.
I have also just realised that this very blog will be 21 in October. Shit!
