Sweet July

Well, a new normal has established itself here in Hexenhäusli Device so I thought I'd pop in during a moment of respite and share some new and old music, some snippets from the garden, and a photo from this morning's Bitey walk:

I wonder why Take That decided to release "Sweet July" now...?

As there's no video for Sweet July yet, here's one of my very favourite TT releases

The YouTube algorithm prominently displayed Richard X's Burning Flame remix of Bananarama's "Venus" for me the other day.

I prefer Bananarama's original, though
(which wasn't the original - that being a 1969 release by Shocking Blue)

Right.  On to the garden photos.  I hope you're all snapping away at your own green patches in preparation for the Infomaniac Garden Photos Event later in the year?

Lilium formosanum var. pricei with the firework-like leopardplant, Ligularia przewalskii "Przewalki's golden ray" in the background

Yesterday, a dragonfly visited the gardens here.

The Hanging Green Gate (which is mostly fuchsias and spiderplants) and accompanying Ipomoea

Not everywhere in the UK is blessed with/suffering from sunshine and high temperatures as this photo goes to show.  The beach (what little there was due to the high tide), was blustery and relatively cool - certainly no more than 20C, thankfully.

In other news: The Ghosts are back!  Well, they will be at Hallowe'en.

  1. A Ghosts film!!!! How fab - I shall look forward to that - thank you for the heads up.
The weather has been relatively cool here as well, and I'm not complaining, although I am forecast to start complaining from Wednesday onwards, and by Saturday a major weather rant is predicted with a light scattering of spittle.
I am jealous of your Lilies, they are beautiful.
    Sx

    1. The Garden Photos Event Terrifying Triffidery AND the Ghosts film - we are being spoiled this Hallowe'en!

When I took Bitey out yesterday morning, there was a light scattering of moisture. I just hope your spittle didn't make it this far?

  3. Regarding the music, I'm with you on both counts - I prefer You're a Superstar to the boys' new one, and, as much as I like Richard X, the original of the Nana's Venus cannot be improved on by any remix...

I love the lily - just look at the size of those trumpets! I also like the "artistic flower wall". Very pretty. Jx

    1. Yes, every remix of the Banana's "Venus" is always a disappointment.

There was a mild exodus from the "artistic flower wall" yesterday. Two spider plants and a small fuchsia (Blacky) had seemingly leapt off it and plummeted to the path below. I blame the blackbirds as they have been getting in and under everything lately, so it wouldn't surprise me if they had knocked the unsecured plants flying!

  4. I prefer bananarama's 80s version, remixes tend to go on a bit too long for my liking, I also prefer Bananarama's version of Love In Stereo to the Sugababes. I'm not usually a fan of lilies but I like those. I bought a varigated hosta and an ornamental hare at a market in Knutsford yesterday, I'll take a picture and send it to you in due course, something to look forward too.

    1. I don't think I know "love In Stereo" - I'll have to look it up.

The lilies are a heavenly scented joy! The hostas have fared surprisingly well this year - the lack of rain has kept the slugs & snails in check, and there's barely a lacy-leaf anywhere. I hope your variegated hosta does just as well. I can't wait to see it - with the hare, of course!

  5. I agree with the majority with Richard X's Burning Flame remix of Bananarama's "Venus". It's uses the good stuff but adds nothing.
The lily with the Ligularia is fabulous.
Watching Dragonflies is like walking with Dinosaurs.
They have been on the planet that long. Pure joy!

    1. I think you've hit the nail on the head there, Madam A. The remix adds nothing.

Yes, I'm very pleased with how the lily & ligularia photo turned out. It was just happenstance - I could never have set it up with such lighting.
Seeing a dragonfly is always a thrill!

  6. I'd quite forgotten your hanging gate! Now I know how to "dress up" the wall . Not sure it will be ready to show in the extravaganza, but I'll talk to the Men...
