 Just popping in to drop off a few things before returning at the weekend to wrap up the year and stuff it in the Sideboard along with all the previous years.

 

 First up from the 21st, I had a wander down to the promenade where the North Sea waved to me rather enthusiastically:

 

 

 Needless to say, I didn't walk along the prom so no witches got wet during the making of this production.  And no Biteys got swept out to sea as I left him at home.

⸰ Star Trek: Lower Decks: U.S.S. Cerritos Crew Handbook by Chris Farnell

 I've been waiting desperately for this book since 19th October - it's original release date - but it was put back a couple of months to 19th December!  I never thought I'd get it before Christmas, but it turned up on the 21st!  It was definitely worth the wait.

 There are so many little notes and almost throw-away explanations that make a few bits & pieces of LDS make more sense.  Things that I hadn't really have thought about, but once explained had me thinking "Oh, yeah!" (like why there are holodeck biofilters instead of the holodeck turning all that "waste" matter into energy or whatnot). 

 It also helps that Rutherford has a super sexy expression slapped across his face in the Engineering chapter that he's featured in! 

 And there is also a funny story (although it must have been terrifying at the time) about a first contact conducted by USS Midthunder which ended in many of the crew soiling themselves!

⸰ "Bloodline" by The Slow Show has been an earworm since I heard it again during a Colin From Accounts rewatch over the last few days (it features in S1 ep3: "Toyota Cressida").  I don't normally like this kind of angsty "oh, poor me" music (and I find the singer's voice particularly annoying as the song goes on), but the brass bits lured me in, especially when the trumpets/cornets/whatever kick in at 2:50 (and later, the horns).

 

 That brass bit was going through my mind yesterday evening while I took Bitey out for his final Christmas poo, and I had the nagging feeling that I'd heard it before (or something very similar) in another song.  Once home, I spent ages trawling through my YouTube history (stopping on 28th December 2021 at the exhilarating "Run Boy Run" by Woodkid before realising that wasn't it), eventually finding the song in question back on 29th October 2021: "Everything Now" by Arcade Fire.  It can be heard when the song gets going from 45 seconds in and continues throughout pretty much the whole song.  (Is it called the hook?  I have extremely limited knowledge of song structure, so will defer to someone else - Mr Tonking, perhaps?)
