PEOPLE!!!

 Look!  Look!!!  They're everywhere!

This was the main beach here at lunchtime today, on one of the hottest days of the year so far.  The tide had just started to go out and, I suspect, there would have been more ghastly people if the tide was on its way out earlier in the morning and it was a weekend.

The reason I'm posting these pictures is that Ms Scarlet, amongst others, has marvelled at how deserted the beach is in my photos.  Well, that's mainly because in the summer, I only go down to the beach (for a walk or a swim) first thing in the morning, and when the tide is right in (if possible).  I also don't go to this bit, the main beach.  No, I disappear up the other end, to the east, which is inconvenient to get to for most families and lazy-arses, and pretty much inaccessible during high tide unless one has fully workable legs and doesn't mind a bit of muddy clay and getting wet.

If - in the unfortunate scenario - I find myself atop the cliff here on a weekend when the tide is out, I will take some more photos.  But, I truly hope that I don't have the opportunity, as being in such close proximity to people* almost made me turn inside out in horror, social distancing or no!

* I suspect some of these were the one's that Mitzi threatened me with, here.

    1. Is there an off season in LA? Winter here is definitely "off" (Autumn and Spring, a little less so) with far fewer people, although I wouldn't want to go for a swim in Winter...

  2. I had an airing to Sewerby this evening 7pm and the place was heaving, it was like Party in the Park but without the music.

    1. Ew, how horrid. Although, with music as it is these days, it might have made it worse!

    2. Sewerby. Almost as bad a place name as Flushing.

    3. I certainly wouldn't want to swim there...

  3. "our" beach doesn't get terribly crowded on ordinary days. But if there is a surf carnival* it's bedlam.
*by that I don't mean Bondi-type numbers;usually just the kiddies'races, training to be proper life-savers when they grow up.

    1. I've seen snippets of that "Bondi Rescue" series - the beach is absolutely inundated! I hope your beach doesn't host many of these surf carnivals during the year?

    2. Hell! no. There are sometimes outrigger canoes races, but mostly we are a small, quiet corner of the world

  4. I like the quarantine better.

I went from a social butterfly like Vivian Leigh to reclusive Greta Garbo in less then a year.

    1. I like the quarantine, too. I think another Lockdown is in order...

    2. I like that I don't have to open the door to anyone, anymore.

    3. Yes, an excuse to board up the front door and take the batteries out of the doorbell!

  5. Norfolk got a mention in The Guardian today in relation to secret beaches! Just saying.
I wish the beach hunters would spread out around the country - the weather isn't even that great in Devon and Cornwall - there's a thick mist here this morning, and the Horse Flies are ravenous.

    1. Bloody Guardian!

There was a little bit of mist here first thing, but it had burnt off by the time I made it down for a swim (about 8:30).
Perhaps the horse flies can be encouraged to pick off all the grockles, leaving the beaches free for the locals? Just imagine a swarm of them buzzing out of the mist and descending on the gormless beach-goers. Excellent!

  6. I wondered where all the people were. Actually I have spoken to three people planning beach trips this weekend and suggested Cromer to them. You're welcome.
