Making Waves

I indicated to Ms Scarlet that this post would feature the narwhal in a spacesuit that I mentioned having drawn (over at hers).  However, that plan has been scuppered (temporarily) after I "accidentally" went down to the seafront this morning with Camera.
After the rain had cleared up and the sun had come out, of course.  The wind was still in full effect, though perhaps not to the same degree that Dinahmow may be experiencing (she was expecting a cyclone to touch down yesterday...).

  Still, it was quite bracing.

As I was walking down the slope, I noticed people on the prom, so I headed East down the cliff instead.  But not before getting these three shots

Person in front of retaining wall: "Yaaaargh!  Run away!"

Person on wall: "Oh, crap.  I'm going to get wet, aren't I?"

Ah... This is more like it.  A people-free zone overlooking the East Beach

Just in case anyone was wondering, that's not snow on the beach - it's spume.
Good word, isn't it?  SPUME!

The sea and spume - SPUME! - were getting a little too close for comfort,
so I headed back towards the prom

Hooray!  Most of the people had gone!
And this photographer and his companion were on their way, too

Ooh!

YIKES!!!

Almost looks calm after all that, doesn't it?

That "calm" only lasted a second or two...

I came back (not soaking wet, surprisingly - but then, I did use this spell) with 131 photos which took up 701 MB!  After the first round of culling, sorting and straightening (the horizon, not me), by midday I had got them down to 104 and 211 MB.  And then Indescribable and The Little Witch came around and spoiled my peace and quiet!
I finally escaped the family chaos and resumed photo-editing at 16:30, getting them down to "only" 70 and 137 MB.  By 17:27, I had ensmallened 36 of the 70 so they were of a size easily downloadable to Blogger, and those are what you have seen (or at least scrolled through and ignored) above.  Normally, I would have split these into at least two posts so as not to bore you with too long a post, or cause you to wear your scrolling finger down to a nubbin, but I just couldn't face having to make further choices of which ones would go in which post - sorry.

Oh, and I must also apologise for presenting photographs with people in them.  I know they're ghastlier than a thousand ghouls, but they do serve a purpose here: to illustrate the sense of scale.  Oh, and laugh at them running away!

The narwhal will feature in the post after this one.  Probably.

    1. I was only there in my capacity of Official Photographer for the Darwin Awards, North Norfolk Division. You see 'Boy on wall' in photo three? Well, he was nowhere to be seen in subsequent shots...

  5. With all this spume you are spoiling us! Soz.
Can you not keep the people of Norfolk under control? They are wandering about all over the show... and worse, they are also standing about. Appalling.

    1. To make matters worse, some of those people weren't even from Norfolk. They had foreign accents from as far afield as Lincolnshire and Essex!

Never apologise for Ferrero Rocher Moments. Never!

  7. All that salty spray caking your face, did you wear one of these there is nothing worse than having spume in your hair.

  9. Amazing fotos! Very dynamic and action packed. And I love watching the tourists get splashed! It's always funny to see hijinks happen to tourists! I'm betting they'll never forget that hard pounding they got on the coast that left them drenched and covered in spume!

    1. I do enjoy a good laugh at someone else's expense!

I'm going to pop down to the beach later (once the tide's out) to see if the rough seas have removed even more sand, or brought it all back.
