More than a Glimpse of Groynes with Lashings of Splashing (and a Passed On Porpoise)

No stars today, and probably none for several days (or weeks) to come, due to the lingering murk.  Still, it didn't stop me popping out for some fresh air.
As usual, I found myself on the beach wandering east towards the End-of-the-Line.  And for one poor coastal denizen, it really was the end of the line...

"slippery, wet, white foam spraying all over the place" - thank you, Eros.

Someone left a bit of groyne in this gaping orifice...

And there's more groyne to be seen through this cleft!

A tease of blue sky

More surging sprays of spume

Oog.  What's this ghastly gull found to gorge on?

Oh, no! A poor passed-on porpoise

Mind the gap

Ah, the End-of-the-Line

I hope you don't find this groyne too overgrown for your liking, Dinahmow?

  1. Beautiful....I can't believe what all gets swept up on your beaches. One day you'll be down there and find the Very Mistress.

    1. Luckily, I have the crew of the Vos Gorgeous on speed-dial, so I'll just give them a call and get them to haul her back out again!

    2. We're not surprised you have the crew on speed dial.

    1. Hey! Less of the old!

Oh. Wait a minute. I think my groynes probably have seen better days...

  3. Fantastic fotos as always! I can almost feel the rough waves and hear them crashing on the shore! Those groynes must be used to such beatings and rough conditions! The close up of the rocks and clefts are amazing! And though it's morbid, thanks for sharing those porpoise fotos. That is nature! With life, there also comes death! And the body will nurture other life.

    1. You're right, those groynes can take quite the pounding!
And those horrid gulls (well, the one on the left, anyway) were certainly being nutured, good and proper.

  4. You do a great job of acquainting me with the fact creatures I thought were fictional actually exist in reality:
Will you walk a little faster?" said a whiting to a snail.
"There's a porpoise close behind us, and he's treading on my
    tail.
I'm looking forward to the day you come across a Mock Turtle, I've always wanted to see one of those!
Also I love the way you've abandoned any attempts to avoid innuendo and double entendre. I know I shouldn't mention this probably but I feel durd you've found a copy of Doreen Valiente Witch abandoned on the beach! (http://houndofhecate.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/doreen-valiente-witch.html)

    1. Innuendo and education - that's all that people want!
I did see a Mock Turtle in the butcher's the other day - well, bits of one, anyway. It wasn't singing, thankfully!

Despite an awful lot of looking, I still haven't found an abandoned copy of Doreen Valiente: Witch (which is why I have to go down to the beach to see any groynes). I did find a rather damp crime/spy thriller on the cliff-top bench behind the Chateau yesterday, but I left it there as John le Carré is not my cup of tea.

  5. Groynes! Festooned with seaweed and barnacles. You spoil me, darling!
Poor old porpoise appears to have met a grim end...but the meander was, as always, lovely.

    1. Oh, I forgot you like your groynes covered in dangly bits! I shall find you such an encrusted groyne on my next beach walk that you will think it's Filthy Friday at The Very Mistress's!

    2. Just add "spume" and we've got our next Filthy Friday post.

    3. Such a suggestive word, "spume". Rather like "moist".

    5. I've heard on good authority that Beast has been banned from supermarket fruit & veg aisles, as well as his local greengrocer's. We can only hope he doesn't have a black market supplier.

    1. It makes for a marvellous face mask, Mitzi. Although, too much at once and you may need a hammer and chisel to remove it..

    2. Did someone mention CAKE-ing?

      Delete
    3. Ha! You're for it now, Mitzi. I'd get that cake off your face tout suite unless you want a close up of The Very Mistress's choice of knickers (I bet she doesn't shop in Marks').

  8. I think all the groynes are being strained by our dreadful weather. If it doesn't stop raining soon I will have a hissy fit to end all hissy fits.

    1. Your weather has been truly terrible, Ms Scarlet. Ours has merely been windy. Which reminds me, I must go down to the beach and see if those groynes have been able to withstand all the blowing!

    2. Nip over to Mogwash and repossess those bottles and send the rain here.
