Red Arrows: Cromer Carnival 2016

The Red Arrows classic Diamond Nine formation
Here are some photos of the Red Arrows from their display for Cromer Carnival 2016!
Yes, Cromer was a no-fly-zone for the likes of those of us of a more eldritch persuasion. All brooms, hoes, brollies, ancient Electroluxes, and especially that Mini Metro full of nuns, were left at home as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, aka the Red Arrows, took to the skies over the North Sea late this morning.

And, yes, this is another photoblog post. I didn't mean to take so many-
And this isn't even the half of it!
Well, yes, but these are the best ones. Cropped and resized for your convenience.
Oh, and we needed another photoblog post to replace Panoramic Triffidery because it too, got hijacked by that infuriating French 'bot!
Dratted thing.
Oh, as always, click to embiggen!

Yes, we know this isn't a Red Arrow. Just some people preparing to watch the display from their yacht.

Cromer Lighthouse from my perch on the edge of the cliff.

The Red Arrows are nine BAE Systems Hawk T1s

Ug. Yes. I know. People! Originally, I was sitting where that old man in the navy shorts (far right) is, but he and the rest of them ruined my solitude, so I upped and moved further east.

I probably could have got a better shot of whatever it is the Red Arrows are doing here if I'd stayed where I was, but that would have meant being in proximity to people.

Oops! Forgot to straighten this photo hence the skew-whiff horizon

Despite (hopefully) unintentionally ousting me from my spot, I actually rather like this photo of the shorts-wearing man and the single Red Arrow

He does like his hands on his hips, doesn't he?

I don't know if the crews of these two ships were watching, too?

  1. Oh, cool! I would love to see the Red Arrows! One would be lucky if there was anyone on the bridge of those cargo ships!

I have seen the US Navy Blue Angels twice and the US Air Force Thunderbirds about 12 times (they used to perform every year here until the air base closed).

    1. That might explain why those ships seemed to be getting closer and closer to each other...

I've heard of the Blue Angels, but not the Thunderbirds - I'll have to look them up. The Red Arrows have performed at Cromer Carnival almost every year for as long as I can remember (not last year, though). There's just something about such precision formation flying that we find enthralling, isn't there?

    2. "Thunderbirds Are Go!" Oh, wait! Not the tv puppets?

    3. Yes, these are the real deal, not horribly botched plastic models hanging from a ceiling somewhere.

  2. Do you have any pics of the nuns in the mini?
Otherwise, glorious! I used to get very excited about seeing the Red Arrows at Biggin Hill - I thought that was where they lived, so years later I was very surprised when they turned up in Southend.

    1. Unfortunately not - they're a bit camera shy. Inexcuseable once got a snap, but it just looked like a load of penguins in a toy car.

The Red Arrows were very near to you this afternoon. Well, relatively near, at any rate: Weymouth Carnival! Do you think Beast was there?

    2. I will ask Mr Beastie if he saw them!

  3. Great aerial shots from the broom, but when you said carnival, I couldn't wait to see pictures of your tilt a whirl

    1. I didn't know what a tilt-a-whirl was, so I looked it up preparing to be shocked, only to discover that it's what we Brits call a waltzer.

    2. A waltzer? Is that's what they call it now?

  4. Nice to see you out and socialising.
I'm impressed your hoes fly. The ones we have here just stand around demanding money for sex.

    1. Well, I was in proximity to people. I wouldn't go as far as to say I "socialised"...

We have a similar problem with our rakes, only they're not bothered about the money, just the sex!

  5. Awesome fotos! Thanks for sharing these. The diamond formation is my favorite shot of the planes! So stunning!

I like the skies & planes & ships & even the people fotos. The Cromer lighthouse foto is absolutely charming & serene, with a hint of longing. The one with the man on the cliff edge & looking up at the plane makes for a wonderful contrast & provides a great perspective on distance & movement.

Though looking at him with his hands on his hips makes me think of an old clubbing/hip hop song called Da Dip.

  6. I recently watched a series about this mob and their flying on telly. plus they had some old WWII flyers on show as well and a stunt with old planes and the latest big jet flying in formation together... A world first apparently...
Perhaps the man in shorts forgot to put his belt on...

    1. I love seeing formation flying. The Read Arrows have flown with a Vulcan bomber and Concorde (my favourite)!
