Nothing you haven't seen before...

Yes. Yet more photos from Sidestrand, Overstrand, and Cromer beaches. The ones I kind of threatened you with last weekend.

Here we are on Sidestrand beach...

... looking East towards Trimingham with nary a soul (nor groyne) in sight.

The chalk beds have been exposed - this is what happens sans groynes!

Don't all these massive chalk formations look impressive?!

Towering cliffs of chalk...

... capped with algae and seaweed.

Huge chalk islands, cracked and split over the aeons.

Chasms and canyons slowly being filled with sand. Wait a minute...
These are at most only six inches high! It's a faaaaake!

Swathes of clay

Pretty!

The view West towards Overstrand

End of the line

A nice, big - although somewhat crooked - groyne for Ms Scarlet and Dinahmow

I like how this groyne is slowly wearing away. Too much attention from the sea's powerful touch...

Just back in Overstrand here...

... heading West along mirror-like sands

A quick look back East before walking along Overstrand beach...

... to the end of the promenade and...

... Cromer Pier in the distance.

I'll leave you with the Forties Sentinel again.

  And there you have it.

  For now, anyway!

    3. I have been recovering :-)
I am organising my thoughts... and terrible photographs... and Pamela Anderson rang telling me that she was hurt and offended by not being invited, so it's been a bit of a weekend really.

  2. Other rock formations are also smaller than one might think...

  3. When not working and getting the parents situated, all you must do is shake the sands out of your underalls.

    1. I don't think Mr. DeVice wears undergarments.

    2. Honestly, the complexities of corsetry was bad enough the first time around - I'm going through that palaver again!

    3. I thought you still wore corsets under your twin set?
Those chalk islands look like giants' teeth - there, started a myth!

    4. Great. Now all of Cromer is talking about it and we'll start to get even more annoying tourists!

  4. The cloud formations are spectacular! The three bright white clouds in the middle of the second foto (Trimingham) immediately made me think UFOs! Prepare to be probed!

And I love the reflective surface of the wet sands. So mesmerizing. The rocks are interesting with their varied colors and compositions.

With all that sand and tides, are there any clams to be found nearby?

    1. No. No clams. But there are plenty of mussels - one could say we have very mussely groynes!

I thought the same thing about those three clouds, too.

  6. A wonky, worn-out groyne? It's getting like the Mistress's "Filthy Fridays" round here :-)

  7. ah, you remind me of a mediocre movie that i've always had a soft spot for. "the chalk garden" has dame edith evans and her flippity-flappity jowls pontificating this and spurting that and i love it.

    1. I remember the Chalk Gardens. Isn't that the one with Deborah Kerr being terribly Deborah Kerr-ish, a spinster with a slutty past. And maybe Haylie Mills just for laughs.

    2. I'm not aware of The Chalk Garden, but I'm not surprised Norma loves it if there's spurting involved...

  9. Nothing sadder than a sagging groyne. But as for the rest, very Ingmar Bergman. And Calvin Klein. Quite a pair, speaking of sagging groynes.

    1. Perhaps Calvin Klein could be persuaded to fashion some sort of industrial strength gusset for the sagging groynes?
